Noumea on a Sunday?

Visiting Noumea later this year on a Sunday.Have been to Noumea numerous times in the past and I must admit it is not my favourite port of call however,it is the first visit for most in our family group (23 people). Can any fellow cruisers help with any information based on their experiences of " Sunday in Noumea).

It will be very quiet in the middle of the city. Some businesses will be open, but not many.

Its the pits being there on a sunday, especially if you are docked at the container wharf, take the family to Casino's supermarket buy some picnic food and jump on the hop on hop off bus and have a picnic on one of the beaches.

I've been there twice. Both times docked at the container terminal. There was not much open. I've heard the patisserie near the markets in open on Sunday.

I agree with that. Suva on a Sunday is a ghost town and a visitor doesn't even have the lovely beaches to go to. :)

We will be there too on a Sunday and we're thinking of visiting the botanic gardens and the aquarium.

There is a really good cafe with free WiFi at Anse Vatu beach. It's in the block of shops that runs in a semi-circle around a small park, near a major interesection with a roundabout. Most of the shops in that complex were shut but a few further along the road were open including a really good hat shop and a reasonably decent souvenir shop.
