teehuge Posted January 4, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 4, 2017 OK - I know this is a weird question. We are going on the Breakaway for our first cruise in April. We love REAL maple syrup. Can we bring our own,or are there restrictions?
luddite Posted January 4, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 4, 2017 (edited) There was an extended thread on this exact subject. Here ya go. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2054192&highlight=maple+syrup With the new rules you probably won't be able to bring it onto the ship. casofilia Posted January 4, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 4, 2017 {Snipped} With the new rules you probably won't be able to bring it onto the ship. What new rules? I see no reason why you should not be able to take Maple Syrup onto the ship if it is in a sealed container that has not been opened.
luddite Posted January 4, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 4, 2017 What new rules? I see no reason why you should not be able to take Maple Syrup onto the ship if it is in a sealed container that has not been opened. The 'No bringing consumable liquids onto the ship' rule. No water or pop allowed. We must assume that maple syrup would be included. I feel the pain. Fake maple syrup is simply vile.
sanger727 Posted January 4, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 4, 2017 Seeing as how maple syrup is clearly not a beverage, I can't see how the no beverages rule would apply; but to be on the safe side I'd bring a small container of it so worse case scenario is they pitch it. hawkeyetlse Posted January 4, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 4, 2017 The 'No bringing consumable liquids onto the ship' rule. It's not a rule against "consumable liquids". It's a rule against beverages, and maple syrup is not a beverage. Since July, I have carried on cough syrup, olive oil, and honey. And not always in unopened bottles, either. skipperanne Posted January 4, 2017 #7 Share Posted January 4, 2017 It makes me crazy that they serve fake maple syrup on the New England / Canada cruises. I always have taken my own. They should be embarrassed. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
packer99 Posted January 4, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 4, 2017 Could it be they don't serve the "real stuff" because its pretty expensive to buy? When you are feeding the masses for breakfast, my guess, the cheaper the better. Real Maple Syrup is far higher in price.
skipperanne Posted January 4, 2017 #9 Share Posted January 4, 2017 Off course this is true and many people don't care. But it isn't even an option or an up charge. And in New England??? It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

david5272 Posted January 4, 2017 #12 Share Posted January 4, 2017 seeing how they removed the terrible lobster menu from most if not all cruise ships....yes the lobster they served was terrible......carribean lobster I believe. Can I packaged 4 live ones from Maine..and bring them on the ship and ask the chef to cook them for me. thanks
AKR2011 Posted January 4, 2017 #13 Share Posted January 4, 2017 We brought Maple Syrup on Board a couple months ago. Nothing was ever said. I think you're good :)

It's not on my packing list either BUT it's not a beverage. Mouthwash is drinkable and is allowed. Maple syrup will go on the banned list the day NCL decides to offer maple syrup with an up charge. But this might be a bit too much. They aren't your personal chefs. Cook your lobsters at home and enjoy them there.
