Crusin6 Posted January 9, 2017 #51 Share Posted January 9, 2017 I've always been confused about debit card drama. We use our debit cards for everything, including onboard cruise charges. Periodic small holds are put on during the cruise but on departure day the total amount due is deducted and all the holds are gone. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app Don't be confused With debit cards it's your cash that's at risk of hacking etc that could cause all sorts of ramifications With credit cards you have zero liability and it's the banks cash at risk Sent from my iPad using Forums
bjcruiser Posted January 9, 2017 #52 Share Posted January 9, 2017 One of the ladies I am cruising with just bought OBC. If she ends up not using all of it does she get it back on the last day or does she have to wait for the refund? Thank you

Laid Back Lenny Posted January 9, 2017 #54 Share Posted January 9, 2017 What do most people use when in port? Is it safe using a credit card in Central America, Mexico, etc., or is it better to bring cash for meals and souviners. Do you bring cash to use in the casino on board or is there a better option? Lionkingrichard Posted January 9, 2017 #55 Share Posted January 9, 2017 Ok here is the best way for you to do it and make everyone happy! Use your CC to secure your on board account! Pay all pending charges with Debit card before leaving ship!:p This is harder on a Disney ship. When your account hits $500(if I remember correctly) they charge your CC. Have come home to see many DCL charges on my bill. You don't prepay for excursions only after you take them. I hate cruising. lol;)

I would guess just like the ones back home - bring cash and go to ATM when it is gone. Correct?

Lionkingrichard Posted January 10, 2017 #60 Share Posted January 10, 2017 Never, ever use a debit card for this. Why is that? You don't trust NCL to make a one time debit to your card? There will be no holds as you are paying your bill in full!
luckyinpa Posted January 10, 2017 #61 Share Posted January 10, 2017 from the official NCL page Norwegian does not recommend the use of a debit card as payment for your onboard folio. However, if you choose to pay with a debit card, please be advised that Norwegian obtains pre-authorization which some banks may hold for up to 30 days. Using your debit or ATM card Norwegian does not recommend the use of a debit card as payment for your onboard folio. Please be advised that multiple holds will be placed on your debit card account based on your onboard purchases. After settling your onboard folio, these debit card holds may remain on your account up to 30 days after the cruise ends. To avoid overdraft charges from your bank, please make sure that you have enough available funds in your account during this hold period. Norwegian will not be responsible for overdraft charges resulting from holds placed on Debit Card accounts.
