I'm on Reflection next week and in a suite...eager to get your take...Sent from my iPad using Forums Lobby Cooler-help yourself but locked at midnight We only visited Michael's once and that was for afternoon tea between 3 and 4 p.m. It had two hosts only one of whom I met and who didn't put a lot of effort into Hosting. I talked to a couple on the Helipad later in the week who were less kind in their opinion. The one I didn't meet was called Alex. Our previous experience on the Silhouette had a lone host called Anca who was highly regarded and justifiably so. I intend to visit it more than once on our next sailing.Have a great cruise on this fantastic ship!Norris
Rare Bimmer09 Posted March 8, 2017 Author #732 Share Posted March 8, 2017 After watching the pool volleyball game for 15 minutes or so I returned to our Alcove for a while. Carol's notes tell me we went back to the cabin at 2.30 and took a two hour nap. On waking we changed into our disembarkation clothes as this evening we had to pack and leave our luggage in the hallway by 9 p.m. We chose to do this after the 7 p.m show and before dinner at 9 in Lawn Club Grill. We had some business to do and it involved booking another cruise before getting off the ship. By doing so we would get all the perks-free internet, paid gratuities, Premium Beverage Package and $550 OBC to share. No brainer! We trooped off to the office on deck 4 and found someone glamorous and helpful. We ended up booking two cruises which I have told you about already. Once those were in the bag we went up to deck 5 so I could have a cigarette and we both could watch the sunset for the last time on board. Aft portside smoking section (outside Sushi on 5) We returned to our room to drop off our new cruise paperwork. I should say that all week one of the elevators on the starboard side midships was out of order all week which caused waits and I am sure they missed it on disembarkation morning. I imagine engineers came aboard during turnaround with missing parts. Next Tenors of Rock in photos and videoNorris

watchdiva Posted March 8, 2017 #735 Share Posted March 8, 2017 We loved Michael's Club! Alex (the Concierge that you didn't meet) could not have been more helpful. We popped into MC several times a day for water, pre-dinner drinks or to listen to live music. Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

sweetpotatoqueen Posted March 8, 2017 #738 Share Posted March 8, 2017 Norris, I happily discovered this thread recently. I am captivated by your lovely photos, fair-minded assessments of the ship's furnishings, staff, and venues, and of course your hilarious commentary. Through this thread, I discovered your review of the Silhouette. My DH and I have taken only one X cruise, the Millennium in Jan 2016, and are eagerly anticipating boarding the Silhouette next month. What a treat to explore the ship before we board through the eyes of you and the other posters on that thread. My bruiser of a Maine Coon cat is eagerly awaiting my nightly reading of the rest of the review - he enjoys long stretches slumbering on my lap, but he has lodged a request for you to cut the funny bits as his naps are disturbed when I laugh out loud. But I say carry on, my friend, and the cat's comfort be damned.
tinaincc Posted March 8, 2017 #739 Share Posted March 8, 2017 Thank you for mentioning cabin 7358 in your wonderful review! We sail on Reflection this XMAS/NYE and we are in that cabin. I was so stressed picking the 'perfect' S1 and your comments helped me relax a bit. Also, your comments on the alcove and the value or lack-there-of now that they are priced at $249 helped with that decision too. It is all the little things in your review that make them so special and so valuable, thanks again.
C 2 C Posted March 8, 2017 #740 Share Posted March 8, 2017 I should say that all week one of the elevators on the starboard side midships was out of order all week which caused waits and I am sure they missed it on disembarkation morning. I imagine engineers came aboard during turnaround with missing parts. The elevator was not fixed during the entire 7 weeks that we were on board until March 4th. One of the concierges was replaced by Bogdan for the last week. The Michael's experience was not up to the standards that we have come to expect. On our last week we spent time with friends in the Sky Lounge where the setting is nicer during sailaway and quieter.

Rare Bimmer09 Posted March 9, 2017 Author #742 Share Posted March 9, 2017 As always I like to continue wth the story before replying to comments-that's a work ethic right there and you can take that to the Bank and get me a roll of quarters while you're there. So we've had a lazy day so far on a ship that is built for relaxation but waking from another deep chasm of sleep in that wonderful cradle of a cabin with the hum of some big engines and the wake ushering in or waves of happy unconsciousness we are up and about and alert enough to talk future bookings and snag a couple of future voyages on X. We have scheduled a final night of activities for ourselves. I even suggested not going to hear Tenors of Rock but luckily Carol reminded me how much I enjoyed them a year prior. I was wanting to "leisurely" pack during that hour which was maybe a sign of dementia. We love to hear good singing-we are Opera buffs if you recall and the Tenors promised some great-not good-singing. You'll hear them for yourself later. Music is like food though, so very subjective so you may hate them as just a few of the patrons did once the tidal wave or sound blew their hair back. You'll see those folks in the video. I don't know if they actually went as far as commandeering a lifeboat but that was always an option, I guess. We have a long walk ahead-from the very stern to the Reflection Theater and we walk the Inside Passage, passing the cheery (always a pleasant smile and a greeting) Room Stewards who toil all day to keep our rooms pristine and welcoming. There was one Indian guy with a thick mustache whom I always bantered with when I met him. He was very far from home but doing his best for his family and I salute his ilk. A ship experience is only as good as the crew can make it. The Captain sets the tone and the Officers translate it to the crew. This was our Captain I have the names of all the major Officers if anyone needs to know them-but it's all Greek to me. At the theater we enter on deck 5 which is the Balcony level and we always sit in the middle a few rows back. There were always lots of empty seats at the 7 p.m show. I felt for the performers at times-especially Savannah Smith the phenomenal singer from our Cozumel day who worked as if the theater was SRO.We find out as showtime arrives that before the band Maarten wants to show us a recap of the entertainment he has provided us over this past week.... M8ApDGk1Qu0 Norris, a splendid time is guaranteed for all!

chamima Posted March 9, 2017 #744 Share Posted March 9, 2017 The entertainment recap video was very interesting. They also had that on our Eclipse cruises this year. A lot of us ( me included) have been complaining about a lack of evening entertainment and music. There seems to be a renewed commitment to more in this department and these end of cruise recaps seem to me to be a way of making sure we all notice. Arno, I'm shocked to hear about the elevator and thought it must have happened on the cruise just before ours. I expected to see someone working on it while we were aboard and when I didn't I guessed a part was needed or a vendor technician was required. Regarding Michael's I only heard that Danni wasn't up to par. The person I spoke to didn't complain about Alex during our brief conversation. Danni seemed a bit disinterested in making a lasting impression. Thanks for the comment. Norris
Rare Bimmer09 Posted March 9, 2017 Author #747 Share Posted March 9, 2017 THE TENORS OF ROCK Their website hasn't been updated since 2013 (way to stay current!) the year they were on X Factor on British tv and it shows a 5 piece band whereas each time I have seen them there are 4. 2 of them are from Wales, one from Scotland and one from the USA I believe. This month they are at Harrahs Casino in Las Vegas. Now there's only 3?! More....
Rare Bimmer09 Posted March 9, 2017 Author #748 Share Posted March 9, 2017 This is the guy with the super high voice you'll hear The stage has a trapdoor and a set of steps which can reconfigure to make a flat cube-a rostrum is a great tool for giving height and drama to the singers. It also rotates! Ingenious. They engage in witty banter between songs The crowd was really into it Here's a video I shot, so you can hear them3yk7LusjQmM There's over 2 minutes of build up so fast forward if you need to... Deck Chair Queen Posted March 9, 2017 #749 Share Posted March 9, 2017 (edited) I would actually consider paying $249 for an alcove on a sea day. Even better if I could use OBC to pay for it, which is not like real money! The comfort and relative privacy have great value to me. If our deck furniture were more comfortable and conducive to napping that would be a different story, bit it isn't. I would pay even more if they would turn off the speakers blaring bad music ALL DAY LONG in a place where you are paying a lot to get some peace and quiet. Just my two cents (or $249) worth.
