Iamthesea Posted November 11, 2005 #1 Share Posted November 11, 2005 Why is Celebrity falling behind and not building new ships like the other lines? We cruised on the Millennium in 2003 and absolutely loved the cruise, but would like something a little newer to come out before cruising with X again. wv4891 Posted November 11, 2005 #2 Share Posted November 11, 2005 HMMMMMMm, I seem to remember a news release a few months back announcing a new class of ship, Post Panamax (spelling??) in size, to be built by 2008.
chessbriar Posted November 11, 2005 #3 Share Posted November 11, 2005 The will have the Challenger class coming out in fall of 2008 and a second ship in 2009. About 117,000 tons. That's always the worst part. Waiting the 2-3 years after the announcement, before you can sail. Need's time for drydocks to open and the ship to get built
Airb330 Posted November 11, 2005 #4 Share Posted November 11, 2005 THe M class ships are the same as the Radiance class right? I hear the R class ships are very nice, but I agree X needs some new ships.
Iamthesea Posted November 11, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted November 11, 2005 Yes, we thought the Millennium to be about the same size as the RCCL Serenade. We really prefer a larger ship. Will the Challenger be larger than the Millennium class? Where can I see some information about them? We will be taking one more cruise on a Voyager class or similar this spring (I hope) and then we will have to wait a while before we can try the new Freedom. Two children in college at the same time. :( By the time we are back on our feet, perhaps the new Celebrity ships will be out.
chessbriar Posted November 11, 2005 #6 Share Posted November 11, 2005 No info is out on the Challenger other than the size. The M class and the Radiance class were both built on the same hull. Interior layout is different, but same size 91,000 gross tons. The Challenger class will be 117,000 gross tons.
wv4891 Posted November 11, 2005 #7 Share Posted November 11, 2005 I was not aware of the second ship in 2009, but that's good news. I found this article, which gives you some details of the new ship. dkjretired Posted November 12, 2005 #10 Share Posted November 12, 2005 since the letter of intent was signed and nothing else has been announced. Actually, the Challenger name isn't even official, I think we may have named it on these boards after hearing rumors on the ships. I wonder if there is any affect on the expected sailing date since so much time has elapsed since the announcement and no building actually being done. I guess they are in some type of design phases.
