Sarande

P and O have stopped going to Turkey and are now going to Sarade Albania. We are booked on this cruise in May. Does anyone have any experience of this port any any ideas for exclusions, walks, sights etc. Many thanks.

There's quite a bit of information on Tripadvisor on both Sarande and Corfu Forums.

We enjoyed our day in Sarande in September. It was 'interesting'. very eastern bloc mid 1970's. empty and derelict concrete buildings and poverty stricken people. There were a few taxis (think 40 year old mercedes cars) at the port offering excursions. There are a couple of bars and restaurants on the sea front. Euros are accepted gratefully.

 

It doesn't sound exciting, does it? But, Sarande is certainly worth a visit, just to see how others live.

The city of Sarande is not, by itself, very charming (and that is an understatement). But I highly recommend getting out of the city and visiting the World Heritage site of Butrint, which feature the remains of the ancient Roman city once located there, but in a very pretty park-like setting. They have built a new road to the site, so the travel is easy, and you also get to see a little of the countryside.
