AA Meetings

Hi, I was curious if anyone can tell me if they still have AA meetings on the Carnival ships? The last update I saw about this was in the fall of 2016, so I want to verify that the meetings are still happening.

Thanks,

They do, but it's more of a gathering, not a typical meeting format. Sometimes nobody shows up. Basically they just provide the meeting location.

This is correct. The cruise line will only provide a forum to meet in. The meetings will be strictly member organized and member led, so if no one wants to step up, then its not much of a meeting.

Hi,

My latest cruise was in Oct 2016. My meeting consisted of 2 members of Al-Anon and me. I'm going on a cruise Saturday and will be going to any meeting listed.

In my limited experience, I have found very very low attendance. But, I go for me...and will continue to search them out :). It only takes 2 to make a meeting.

All the best. BTW... my husband likes to say this if we're somewhere where there's lots of drinking to excess going on, " There's a good example of bad behavior!." And yes we do flashback and know ,...that WAS me and maybe could be still...if I don't take the action required of me in my Program.

All the best to you,

:). Bobbi P.

I just cruised on the Sunshine from Jan 29 to Feb 3.

There are Friends of Bill W (AA) and Friends of Jimmy K (NA) meetings throughout the week. However, at least on the Sunshine, their choice of venue leaves a lot to be desired. They were held in the Library Bar, and while it was pointed out to me by John Heald that it's no longer a full service bar, it has a bar with wine glasses and a Pour Your Own Wine station. I certainly think they could find a space onboard that would allow for a meeting without the temptation (and insult) of alcohol being flung in the faces of the people who are just trying to stay sober one day at a time.

Yeah that sounds phenomenally inappropriate
