Rotterdam (port) transfers

The Rotterdam port is downtown. After you leave the terminal there should be taxis right there. There's a pretty big parking lot next door, and a hotel (The old HAL headquarters) a few yards in the other direction.

We are arriving in Rotterdam on Holland America. They will only transfer to the airport. Does anyone have any experience going from Rotterdam (port) to downtown Amsterdam? What options are there?

Thanks,

Karen

There is a subway station a 5 min. walk from where the ships dock, at least where we docked on Maasdam last August. We took the subway to the RR station and took a train to Delft. Trains also go to Amsterdam - it isn't a long ride.

Trains are easy to get, relatively cheap and will take you everywhere in Holland (Rotterdam CS to Amsterdam CS will take about 45 minutes). The problem will be your lugagge as there will not be any room in the train compartment. Best bet is to take a cab to Schiphol (A'dam Airport), check your luggage (or rent some lockers) - go downstairs to the Schiphol train station and take the train to Amsterdam CS (about 15 minutes). From the train station there is a multitude of things to do depending on how much time you have available. Have a great time!

If you want to go to Amsterdam because you stay overnight, take either a cab (quite expensive in NL, try to make a deal first), or take the transfers to Schiphol Airport offered by the cruisecompany.

From the airport either travel by train to Central Station, by cab, or take the shuttle that brings you to many hotels (www.schiphol.nl).

It is more expensive then the train, but also more convienent.

Or take the train to Amsterdam Central Station. from Rotterdam Central Station (you will need a cab to that station first).

If you take the train my advise is to travel 1st class, which has more space. However if you have much luggage the train might be a problem.
