beachdrifter1961 Posted April 23, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 23, 2017 I'm going on my first cruise on the Azura September 2017 ( Norwegian Fjords). I know there are going to be 2 black tie nights. I just wanted to know if most people wore a Tux or dark suit and tie.? I do have other questions :D
john watson Posted April 23, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 23, 2017 I should suggest that at least 90% of gentlemen wear tuxedos. Regards John

NSWP Posted April 23, 2017 #4 Share Posted April 23, 2017 Thanks, I'll go with the TUX then and look like a divvy!!:D Please explain a 'divvy' to an Antipodean. I know what a Chav is.:p
john watson Posted April 24, 2017 #5 Share Posted April 24, 2017 Please explain a 'divvy' to an Antipodean. I know what a Chav is.:p A divvy is someone who is a bit of a div. Div originates from prison slang, inmates were given jobs one of the simplest, not requiring any intelligence, was to put cardboard dividers into boxes. Someone doing this was called a "divider" or "div". Beachdrifter is insulting himself in a light hearted way as he presumably thinks he will look slightly silly. Regards John I used to think the same when we first started cruising, but my wife finally persuaded me to buy a tuxedo and guess what, I quite like wearing it now and think I look fairly smart in it. Cruise Puss Posted April 24, 2017 #7 Share Posted April 24, 2017 Thanks, I'll go with the TUX then and look like a divvy!!:D You will certainly not look like a 'divvy' - you will look like James Bond, and, anyway, all men look wonderful in Black Tie. :) It is one of the joys of P&O that they have Formal nights where most people dress up - men in Black Tie and ladies in long or short evening dresses - it is a wonderful sight, and, sadly, becoming less prevalent. beachdrifter1961 Posted April 24, 2017 Author #8 Share Posted April 24, 2017 Thanks for the comments. I never realised that Divvy was a prisoner term. My grandad was from Liverpool, when I was young if I did something silly/ stupid he'd call me a divvy. I've grown up with and in a way used it as a kind of affecetion if my girls did some thing silly. I think I'm just a bit nervous as it is our first cruise and the thought of me in a tux doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. I've got a image of Phil Mitchell as a bouncer..
