Passing along Sea Princess Laundry room info!

Just returned from two weeks on the Sea Princess and thought I would let those of you that have an upcoming cruise that the washers and dryers are FREE onboard. The laundry rooms are very small, the one we used on Baja Deck had two small washers and two small dryers. But there is no charge for their useage. If you don't bring your own detergent, it can be purchased at the purser's desk for $1 per box (ALL is what they sell if any are particular). Of coarse there are also free irons and ironing boards in the self service laundry rooms, like on other Princess ships.

We were on the May 28, 2005 Sea Princess RT from Southampton, England. An ironing board and iron were stored in the closet in the cabin. Not sure if all rooms still have this feature. We were in an inside, Cat. M. It was great to iron in the room before dinner. The steward would put it away once the iron cooled while we were at dinner.

Love it!

Toto, how did you like the Sea Princess? Is she much different from the Sun Princess? She was refitted for the British market. We hated to see her go then. We thought she was the best ship in the fleet.

Roberta

We absolutely loved it. She seemed so much newer then the Sun Princess was. We would book her again anyday, even with the tiny casino onboard. :)

Afraid that the irons/ironing boards, are no longer in the staterooms. We could see in the laundry rooms where half the washers and dryers had been taken out to install irons/boards there instead.

To bring up another subject. MUTS was not even bothersome. Wireless/small Headsets are provided in each stateroom and without them, you can't hear the sound during the day. I think they had to many complaints about the darned thing too loud all day long.

Thanks for the info. we are sailing on the Sea Feb. 3rd, 2007. Never too early to start gathering all of the info. that we can.

Did I read in one of your posts earlier that the Sea only has Anytime Dining now? Or did I miss-read that? We switched from Traditional to Anytime because we really prefer the Anytime Dining, so it doesn't really matter for us. But for others in our group it does.

Thanks again for the info.

No, the Sea has the usual first and second seating, PLUS anytime dining.

I really have no idea of the hours. I went in the evening a couple of times. During the day with so few washers/dryers there is always a line but evenings there usually is not. Best time to try is between early and late seating. That seems to be the only time when the rooms were empty.

Just remember if you don't take your own laundry detergent, you have to go all the way down to the purser's desk, stand in line (and there always seemed to be a line down there) to purchase the detergent.

Great point fllady. The washers are front loading and even when I put in the box purchased from the ship, all of the soap did not come out of my clothes and I had to re-rinse. I would suggest possibly half a tab in these small front loading machines. Think half the size of most washers at home that you use, and that will be about what they will hold.

Thanks for the quick reply Toto. We still have a few of those laundry tablets that were sold a few years back, and use them just for cruises. Easy to pack with no mess.

I miss those tabs!!! I actually called the company and the customer service rep said they stopped making them as they didn't sell well. As far as bubbles-only use half of what you would at home. If you buy the small box from the Purser's desk, one will be good for 2 loads.

Happy sailing.

  • 4 years later...
Does anyone know if this is still the case on the Sea Princess ? i.e. free laundry.

If not how much is it, and assume it is in US quarters ?

==

Yes, still free... Apparently the reason for this is that when the ship was P&O's Adonia, she was setup for free laundry (Brits don't pay for laundry, I guess...) :p:confused: When she was transferred back to Princess, I guess it was easier to not replace the machines...

on 6/11 and laundry was free...but you do have to pay for the soap if you don't bring your own...and the machine uses American quarters for the soap. Long lines...and the machines...especially the dryers...take forever to dry. Plan on coming early and staying late...or checking back in often!! You can ge quarters from the Pursers Desk...we did laundry twice and worked out OK...just be patient, early and be prepared to wait! LuAnn

Toto...perfect timing! We began packing yesterday, and discussing how often we might have a chance to do laundry on such a port intensive itinerary. Do you recall if the laundry rooms were open 24 hours a day or something like 8a-8p? Thanks very much.

We were on the SP in early May and I beleive the laundry closes around 10:00 p.m.

I second what LuAnn said (hi LuAnn!). We also just got off the Sea Princess, and did some laundry. The machines were small, and the dryers on deck 8 (Dolphin) did not work at all. DH did not realize this when he started some laundry - until he started talking to a woman who had been waiting over an hour for her clothes to dry. She finally gave up and left with her wet clothes - now it was DH's turn to attempt to dry his clothes. He also waited for an hour, gave up and tried taking the clothes to other laundry rooms on other decks and found lines of people waiting. Since we were in a very small inside cabin, there was no place to hang all the wet clothes. Our cabin steward came to the rescue and took our clothes to the ship's laundry. We were charged for this, but I went to the Purser's office and asked them to remove the charges - and they agreed!

The laundry rooms were very small, dirty, hot & stuffy - unlike laundry rooms we have used on other Princess ships.
