flamomo Posted May 14, 2017 #26 Share Posted May 14, 2017 . They are now using larger ships for this cruise than they did in 2012. With the even larger Royal Princess coming to the west coast in 2019, she may be the ship used for the 28-day LA-Tahiti-LA starting that year. THAT would be a deal breaker for me. I guess I'd better be looking at doing it again BEFORE 2019, just in case it does.

Aus Traveller Posted May 15, 2017 #29 Share Posted May 15, 2017 (edited) Did this cruise a couple years ago..signed up again 3/18... Wish they would add Figi as a port..never been there. Love leaving from LA on a long cruise with no flight:cool: To add even one port in Fiji would add three days to the cruise and this would make it too long and too expensive for some people. From memory, I think there is only one sea day between Pago Pago in American Samoa and Fiji, but it could be two sea days. OnVacation11 Posted May 15, 2017 #30 Share Posted May 15, 2017 Book early - like as soon as new rates come out if possible. This will be DH's retirement trip - IF they still offer it in 5-10 years! :( It was retirement cruise last October !!! I loved it and I am thinking of booking it again this year especially since they added a Hawaii port. Maybe it will become an annual celebration of my retirement

Maybe it will become an annual celebration of my retirement  Most of us would actually rather they still had Apia as a port rather than adding Kona instead. It's not the fault of the cruise line though as there is an ongoing infrastructure upgrade happening in the Apia harbor so we aren't able to port there. I doubt we will ever get to do this cruise again so it's a drag to miss one of the far ports. Ah, well... We will just have to "suffer".
greenie082756 Posted May 15, 2017 #32 Share Posted May 15, 2017 This 28 day cruise is on our bucket list for retirement. We love sea days! Can't wait for Thraks review...:p

Please don't let the size of the ship keep you from taking this wonderful itinerary. It is worth it. Everyone has their preference for the size of ship they cruise on. Having cruised on both the Royal and the Emerald, my preference would be for the Royal. Even though it carries more passengers, it seemed much less crowded to use than the Emerald, Crown, Ruby, or Caribbean.

westcoaster Posted May 15, 2017 #35 Share Posted May 15, 2017 This itinerary has been offered 2x/year for several years. Very popular. Book early as prices will go up if you wait to book. FYI, the Emerald Princess is doing this cruise October 23, 2018. This isn't always the case. When I did this cruise a few years ago, we booked about two months before the sailing date and the price was well under $100/day. Since then, I've received promo emails with last-minute fares on this itinerary (under $100/day) for nearly every time Princess has done this cruise. It surprised me a bit that there would be such good deals on this cruise since so many people can do it without needing airfare, but I suppose there are also a lot of people that can't go away for such a long cruise. cacruiser54 Posted May 15, 2017 #36 Share Posted May 15, 2017 Totally agree! In fact, would love it if the European cruises left from SF. LOL All that flying and jet lag to get to the more exotic cruises...no bueno. :o It would be much better if it left out of SF. ;)

nukesubsailor Posted May 17, 2017 #39 Share Posted May 17, 2017 Of the 2 times a year that this itinerary is offered is one better than the other weatherwise? When we did this cruise in the fall of 2012 the weather was great. The trip was great even if the fun was dimmed by a couple of tragedies. The wife's father's passing and the presidential election. diwanna Posted May 17, 2017 #42 Share Posted May 17, 2017 There is a Holland cruise in March 2019 that's very similar but only 2 stops in Hawaii. We are looking closely at that one... more time to save :)
