When to buy the Beverage Package

We have decided to purchase the signature beverage package on our cruise next month, should I buy ahead of time or wait until on board to get the $days earned for Mariner status.

Purchasing the package in advance will still earn cruise day credits so it doesn't really matter when you purchase it. If you have OBC to use, you may want to wait until you are onboard to purchase the package.

Wait until you sail out of FL or you will pay the state sales tax if purchased on board.

Anything you pre-purchase -- Beverage Packages, shore excursions, specialty restaurants, etc. -- counts towards your "days" status on HAL.

If you want to be able to use the Beverage Package right away -- pre purchase it ahead of time.

You'll get credit either way - And the beverage package is $5 pp per day less when you buy it before the cruise. (It's actually $5.75 less when you figure in the service charge.)

Someone also mentioned the pre-boarding purchase of the all inclusive $50 / day per person, 15 drink limit Beverage Package on the Princess board a while back and just wondered why that might be or if you had any insights into the matter as to why, as you mentioned, it's applicable to the similar package available on HAL.

 

I would think that for longer cruises (>30 / 40 days) the pre-purchase of the aforementioned package might be a consideration.

HAL has recently changed their pricing model. You will want to purchase the signature beverage card BEFORE you depart. The price if purchased on board has now increased to $49.95 p/day. If you purchase it before departure, the price is $44.95 p/day.
