MLA Posted June 15, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2017 Hi. We are considering a cruise in December from Fort Lauderdale. The 10 day Caribbean cruise. Although I have been on HAL cruises in past years, I have no experience with this newer ship. Any hints on cabins? We would want an ocean view or balcony. Prefer a covered balcony, since I have problems with the sun. Also a quiet cabin is very important. I would love any feedback anyone would like to give. Rare Lady Arwen Posted June 15, 2017 #2 Share Posted June 15, 2017 We just returned from 14 nights on Kdam and we had cabin 4020. Very large balcony (steel railing) and quite forward. We loved it! Loved being right above the Dutch Cafe and the casino. We felt no excessive motion or wind. Some people hate the steel railing, as opposed to the plexiglass. It was not even a small issue with us. The price for this cabin was just slightly more than an interior and in some cases less than an oceanview. The balcony was both sun and shade. catl331 Posted June 16, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 16, 2017 Most balconies are fully covered, and I think everything is at least partially covered. The partial-covered would include the deep ones on deck 4, those on the stern, and the odd-shaped ones where the side angles in. What cabins have you had on other HAL ships that you liked? wbrumel Posted June 16, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 16, 2017 The one thing I would caution you about is to NOT get a connecting cabin (unless, of course, you are taking both) because a consistent criticism of Koningsdam is that the connecting cabins are very noisy, with people able to hear even light conversation from the adjoining room. St. Louis Sal Posted June 16, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 16, 2017 I'd echo what others have said about steering clear of adjoining cabins. Our daughters had 6113 (Mozart Deck) and they could recount all the conversations of the two people in the cabin next to them. They loved their balcony (which was slightly oversized) but complained that the storage space in the cabin was somewhat limited. My DH and I had a Signature Suite on the Gershwin Deck (5001) and I wouldn't recommend that one either. Although the balcony looks large on the deck plans there is a divider and our room steward insisted it could not be open. We had some high wind and waves and the wind actually kept us from using the balcony sometimes. The wind was so strong I literally couldn't open the door. Also you cannot have the outside light on at night (these are controlled by the bridge) and they ask you to keep your draperies closed at night as well. The cabin is large but set up a little oddly. The sofa was not that comfortable and you could only see the TV from the bed. St. Louis Sal
Reagan0712 Posted June 16, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 16, 2017 We were in 6142. Very nice cabin with balcony. It was a connecting cabin, but unlike others, we never heard anything from the people next door.
Palm Bay Cruise Couple Posted June 16, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 16, 2017 We were in 10002, Panorama Deck, very quiet area. Outside Spa Stateroom.
gentlemancruiser Posted June 17, 2017 #8 Share Posted June 17, 2017 We were in cabin 11055 and it should be avoided at all costs. I cannot believe it would be considered such a high category. We could hear jogging every morning, noises from movies from 7pm-12am. Several morning we were awakened by what sounded like high heels from the deck above. One our cruise encountered fog and the horn was sounded every 2 minutes from 9:45pm to 1:15am, each horn blast could be felt in the bed and on the floor because there is very little insulation between the outside wall of the cabin which is in a direct line with the horn. Palm Bay Cruise Couple Posted June 18, 2017 #9 Share Posted June 18, 2017 Cabin 11055, is below the Retreat area, adjacent to the Jogging track and behind the outdoor screen. Maybe next time check the deck plans carefully for possible issues that could be of concern.

gentlemancruiser Posted June 18, 2017 #13 Share Posted June 18, 2017 Thanks for the tip. Did you hear any noise or smell smoke from the casino, or is it non-smoking? Sent from my iPad using Forums The casino allows smoking. There are non smoking nights in the casino. The machines that are smoking are located in the center of the casino, close to the tables. If you stay on the side by the bar you should be OK.

I was referring to the cabin mentioned in another post. Wondered if that cabin had any smoke wafting from the casino. My least favorite smell in the world (g). happy2cruise2016 Posted June 18, 2017 #15 Share Posted June 18, 2017 We stayed in cabin 8089 and I was a little worried because it was under the Lido Pool area. It ended up being right under the counter area at the Dive-In so no noise early or late...only time we heard anything was during busy lunch hour, but we were rarely in our room at that time and it was only minor noise at that. The location was great...just a short walk out our door to the stairs and one floor up to Lido Market...very convenient to grab a cup of coffee or snack. My husband even went up to get something to drink while I was getting ready for one of the Formal nights and came back with a plate of lobster tails as an appetizer! Rare Lady Arwen Posted June 19, 2017 #18 Share Posted June 19, 2017 Thanks for the tip. Did you hear any noise or smell smoke from the casino, or is it non-smoking? Sent from my iPad using Forums We did not smell any smoke from the casino from this cabin or even in the hallways. It also was pretty quiet, except for when the BB King Blues band were playing. It sounded like it was right in our cabin. However, this was not a problem for us as we like to stay up later than 11:00, which is when they finished their last set. Loved this cabin!!! Do not hesitate to book it. Fabulous cabin for the price.

We just found out we'll be in SY5002 for our cruise next week. I found some good pictures online of 5001, but they didn't show the closets. Are they across from the couch? It looks like there's a large mirror there and not much space between the bed and the bathroom door. Thanks for any info you can provide...
