UK cruisers sailing on RCCL from San Juan?

Hello all,

 

Has anyone from the UK sailed from San Juan on a Royal Caribbean ship?

 

If yes, which airport would you recommend doing the transfer at as there is no direct flight from the UK to Puerto Rico. Or is there?

Norwegian did a direct flight from LGW last year. Unsure if it's still on this year though

We have flown to San Juan via Orlando from Dublin , so flights from the UK the same way should be possible

Hi yea we sailed on Adventure in September 06.

 

We try to avoid changing in the US the process takes too long andwe hate having to collect luggage and go through immigration and then re check in (unless staying over a few days) ie a multi city.

 

For that trip we wanted to stay in San Juan a few days post cruise so did not have time for a stopover in the USA.

 

So decided to fly Iberia changed flights in Madrid and then direct to San Juan.

As Swoopy says Norwegian do a direct flight from LGW. We went from Heathrow via Philadelphia though.

I just looked at the Norweigan site and San Juan is not listed but Seattle has appeared maybe that replaced the San Juan route.

We did a B2B on Adventure 11 of us , we flew into Miami, stayed overnight at the Sheraton close to the airport. Flew down the following morning from Miami. Return flew into Miami and caught 5.25pm flight to Heathrow.

 

We are looking to do San Juan next year and the plan is to stay a couple of nights either side of a B2B.

We generally do a B2B or 10 days or more in the Caribbean due too the cost of airfares.

We have gone through Orlando with Virgin twice but had a couple of nights stay in between flights. Then used JetBlue from Orlando to San Juan.

 

My work colleagues fly to San Juan quite regularly and prefer the Philadelphia route rather than New York.

After Norwegian stopped doing direct flights I don't think anyone else does.

But we did Norwegian into JFK and booked separate flights to sju as it was a lot cheaper than a multi city.

I have also flown London Madrid, Madrid San Juan on Iberia and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Poor service, old aircraft, delays and then changing in Spain was almost as bad as the US.

Another option to use Norwegian (who have very competitive pricing) would be to fly from San Juan to Fort Lauderdale via one of the low cost carriers and then there's a direct flight from FLL to Gatwick with Norwegian. It doesn't operate every day though so would need to fit in with your timings.

We've done this twice, 1st time flew to Miami for 2 days then flew to SJ on the morning of the cruise, 2nd time was to Orlando for a couple of days and then again to SJ with Jetblue on the morning of the flight. We liked both but preferred via Orlando as we did shopping and it seemed easier through Orlando airport.

we flew early morning from Miami, our mid morning flight had been cancelled so we had to leave about 7am. We arrived inSanJuan about 11ish to be informed our transport was not going to arrive until one due to problems embarking the ship. If you take into account that departure is not until 8.30 a morning flight is loads of time
