dorchrislen Posted August 19, 2017 #26 Share Posted August 19, 2017 On our March cruise we have 4 sea days, so I'm going to use some of these ideas (I especially like the naked checkers and Cheers bar hopping). Last month on Splendor we did the Behind the Fun on sea day. If you've never done it, do it! So worth the experience and little extra touches. I also like to go to the Love & Marriage show, and relax in the cabin with a book or magazine.
bobsfamily Posted August 19, 2017 #27 Share Posted August 19, 2017 Bob brought his laptop and would play his games. He's the same way and I get tired of hearing he's bored so I do us both a favor and leave him at home! This Bob does not get bored and my wife loves having me along (thank goodness!)... the upcoming cruise at the end of August 2017 is for our 30th anniversary! deborahjo Posted August 19, 2017 #28 Share Posted August 19, 2017 Love sea days. Pool time, eat, do a lot of people watching (best thing going on a cruise ship) and we bring cards and travel games with us. If someone wants to play we just add one more. Fun way to get to know people. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
tea4ular Posted August 20, 2017 #29 Share Posted August 20, 2017 If you have a favorite game to play (ours is Scrabble) bring that, set up in the shade, outside, where you can enjoy people watching but not worry about getting baked in the sun. cb at sea Posted August 20, 2017 #31 Share Posted August 20, 2017 Everyone is different. I have no need of "sea days"...the pool is crowded...the ship is crowded...I like port days when folks leave the ship and I can have it somewhat to myself! Sorry...not much help for your hubby...tell him to take a nap or something....
Sillyjilly Posted August 20, 2017 #32 Share Posted August 20, 2017 DH gets bored on the ship even though there are tons of activities. He prefers to sit in the casino only if he's winning. He's not good at trivia and doesn't like to read or sit by the pool. Looking for fun ideas to help him get through the sea days. Thanks in advance for your ideas. You just described my hubby. He nearly went insane on the Hawaii 15 day cruise. I cruise without him now. Works better for both of us. I have brought my laptop and Dvd's in the past and that helped. Cruise-Crazzy Posted August 20, 2017 #33 Share Posted August 20, 2017 Why are you going on a cruise if you DH does not enjoy cruising? Sent from my GT-P5113 using Forums mobile app
funinthesun1964 Posted August 20, 2017 #34 Share Posted August 20, 2017 Would he like to go to the spa and get a massage? That relaxes you, so he could nap afterward. By then, it could be time to get ready for dinner. Maybe a workout at the gym? Mini golf? Tea time?

Quilcruisers Posted August 20, 2017 #36 Share Posted August 20, 2017 My husband is similar, he likes to go on vacation but does not like the pool or even the beach. He loves to eat, will gamble a little and enjoys the shows. He does not drink a lot, prob one drink a day. I will take him with me to trivia or other interactive activities or we will sit and people watch. When he does not want to do those things he is welcome to relax in the cabin playing games, sleeping off the food or watching tv or movies. It is his vacation too and I honestly think he enjoys just getting away and not having to be at work. I will ask once if he wants to go to something, otherwise I will go with others that we go with or alone. I really enjoy having down time on the cruise and usually spend sea days relaxing in the cabin or hanging out on one of the quiet decks with music and a book. Pellaz Posted August 20, 2017 #42 Share Posted August 20, 2017 Last month on Splendor we did the Behind the Fun on sea day. If you've never done it, do it! So worth the experience and little extra touches. OP, I was just about to suggest this also. If your DH has any interest in technical stuff or how things work "behind the scenes" aboard what amounts to a floating city, the Behind the Fun tour might be a great option for him (and maybe you). It will take up at least 3 hours of the last sea day and he'd be out of it in time to meet you for lunch (or the end of the seaday brunch, if you hurry). I've never NOT done it on a Carnival cruise and I've learned something new and nifty every time; highly recommended. --Plus it might tire him out a bit. There's a fair amount of walking, so after lunch, a nice afternoon nap, and hey presto it's time for dinner. :D

firemanbobswife Posted August 20, 2017 #46 Share Posted August 20, 2017 As an old married guy do not understand husband and wife taking separate vacations. Why not? He doesn't like cruising anymore, I do. Why should he have to suffer for a vacation and why should I have to give it up? We don't have to be around each other all the time. Sometimes it's good to do your own thing. When he goes on his whitewater rafting/camping trips with the guys from the station, I don't ask to tag along. While I have been whitewater rafting as well as camping (plenty of times) before and enjoy them both, I wouldn't want to combine the two. I would rather be floatin' lazily on the ocean instead of battling water and mosquitos.
Canadianmama3 Posted August 20, 2017 #47 Share Posted August 20, 2017 As an old married guy do not understand husband and wife taking separate vacations. Separate vacations can be great for couples who don't like doing the same things. I sometimes take separate vacations with the kids while hubby stays behind and golfs to his hearts content and sleeps until noon if he wants. This year he's planning on a golf trip alone. We also do things as a family. But separate vacations means we aren't trying to convince the other to do things we don't want to do or will have no fun doing. Why would we spend money having someone going on a vacation they aren't happy with? And yes hubby and I also go away just us with no kids. Hubby doesn't feel guilty about golfing. And I don't feel about taking the kids fun places. It's a win win. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
bUU Posted August 20, 2017 #48 Share Posted August 20, 2017 We were commenting about this after lunch today: There are definitely different kinds of couples and it isn't anyone's place to regard one person's marriage as any less than their own, despite those differences. My spouse and I do everything together in terms of leisure and vacation, with very minor exceptions. Other couples may spend very little of their leisure time together. If that works for them that's great.
