Jade

There is ALOT to tell about the Jade.

I would start with reading some reviews in the review section.

Also, scroll down the page here and folks put up mini reviews.

The Jade is part of the Jewel class which include the GEM and Pearl. All great ships.

My first NCL cruise was on the Jade and it was a great cruise. For me, cruising is about the ports and getting to spend time reading and such so the Jade was great for me. :)

Here are a few to get you started:

I can try to help you. Last time I was on the Jade was September 2010 we did a western med cruise. I will Be on the Jade again September 2017. So I'm excited to see her revamped! However we loved the Jade. The Jade is smaller than the breakaway as you said you've been on. I do like the medium sized ships which is what I classify the Jade as, "medium sized". It was fairly easy to navigate the ship after a day or 2 of wondering around. We stayed in a mini suite, which we are staying in a mini suite this time as well. I really liked the size of the mini suite and the bathroom size. We enjoyed all the food onboard, we did pay for La Cucina, and in 2010 they had an Asian fusion place but they no longer have that. We loved blue lagoon, but I believe this place is no longer as it has been updated and replaced and is called O'sheehans now. So we are looking forward to trying this out. Mdr food was good. We only ate at the buffet for breakfast and found we had better seating taking our trays to la cucina to sit and eat in there, the buffet is very very crowded for breakfast. Overall, we liked the ship, entertainment was hit or miss, the casino we went to 2-3 times and played slot machines and enjoyed that. It was just me, my husband and our son who was 10 at the time. This time next month when we cruise it will be the 3 of us again only now our son is 18 so there's no kids club for him to go to, he will hang with us for the cruise. However if you have kids, the kids clubs on ncl are very very good. My son loved the kids clubs. Hope this helps a bit. Enjoy your cruise.

There is so much info on these boards about the Jade at the moment. As well as Bermudabounds excellent live report from a couple of weeks ago, there are two of us currently onboard who are reporting here and there have been a lot of other reports and photos of the alterations in the past couple of months.

We've been on Jade twice -- Adriatic/Greece and Norway/Iceland/Scotland. She is right for us. Not a lot of bells and whistles, but big enough for interesting nooks and crannies. The size is very manageable. Not exactly intimate, but not massive. Public areas are nice. A bit understated, not luxurious. Not exactly super "classy" like some other cruises we've done but not dumpy or anything like that.

I wouldn't like her on a heavy sea day cruise. I would get a little bored. But for a port intensive cruise, we found her just like Goldilocks did the porridge -- not too hot not too cold. Just right.

  • 4 weeks later...

I very much enjoyed the Jade- one of my most favorite cruises ever. She is absolutely perfect for a port intensive itinerary- not sure she's the best choice for a lazy Caribbean sail though as she is missing an adult only pool and decent thermal suite.
