CherylFP Posted August 27, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2017 We're looking to go on the 7 July cruise which is 11 nights. It's for a family holiday with 6 adults and four kids aged 11, 13, 13 abd 15. I've read about the Ambassadors of the Environment program and would be interested to hear from anyone whose teens have been on that. I have a few questions: Is the program interesting or does the marine theme get a bit boring? Does the Paul Gauguin have deck games? Is there an icecream bar? As there are two sea days is there enough for the teens to do - particularly without the Internet 😀😀. My four grandchildren are sporty kids and active. They've looked at other ships with all the bells and whistles. I'm hoping Paul Gauguin would be ok. Any information would be so appreciated, thank you. CherylFP Posted August 27, 2017 Author #2 Share Posted August 27, 2017 Sorry I think it is called the Stewards of Nature program for kids/teens. Also are kids allowed to use the pool on the ship any time or are there restricted hours?
gydell Posted August 27, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 27, 2017 Can't help with your questions but my 16 yo will be on this cruise with me. He's been on many cruises and is looking forward to this one. I've enjoyed reading trip reports of this same cruise in 2017. Here's the site in case you're interested - http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2527493

okiebaugh Posted August 27, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 27, 2017 We took our daughter when she was 17 and our son was 8. Our daughter very much enjoyed the youth program, and they allowed our son to participate in some of the activities. There are not activities all of the time though, so they do have to be able to self entertain. The kids can use the pool. No ice cream bar. There was a shuffle board court that we used. We did the 7 night, so being in port every day kept the kids busy so they didn't need a ship with all the bells and whistles. Hope that helps! Hi CherylFP, We hope you decide to sail with us! Through our partnership with the Wildlife Conservation Society, we offer the Stewards of Nature program that invites guests to discover and value nature through hands-on, interactive learning for children and teens ages 7-17, as well as family members. This program is offered on the July 7, 2018, Cook & Society Islands voyage. For more information, visit: http://www.pgcruises.com/WCS-Family. There is also a daily schedule you can view to see the activities for each day of the sailing. The ship also has a watersports marina for kayaking, windsurfing, and paddleboarding at select times during the cruise. Complimentary snorkeling equipment is also available for check out. At our private island, Motu Mahana, there is volleyball and kayaking and our private beach in Bora Bora guests can paddleboard and kayak. There are also Polynesian activities led by Les Gauguines and Les Gauguin and shuffleboard. Kind Regards, Paul Gauguin Cruises
azevedan Posted October 13, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 13, 2017 We didn't cruise with teens, but a fair number of them were on the December holidays PG cruise we took a few years ago, and they seemed to be having a great time. There was a diving program...they got their certificates and did a lot of great diving.

Kind Regards, Paul Gauguin Cruises I have been looking at this specific cruise and have a question about Stewards of Nature. It would be our 8 year old in the program. Seems to be an amazing offering but also a very full schedule. Does the child have to do the program every day? Or if there was a day or two we wanted to take a different excursion as a family, but have him do the Stewards of Nature all the other days, is that ok? Also, it looks like you can do an add-on for a family member. Question here is can you rotate the adult family member one day to another? We also have a 1 year old so it would be one parent joining the Stewards of Nature on a given day. May also have a set of grandparents with us so there is a thought that one of them might want to rotate in if that was allowed.
CherylFP Posted February 10, 2020 Author #9 Share Posted February 10, 2020 Hi. Just an update on when we are now intending going on this cruise. October there is a Cook Islands and Tahiti cruise and am wondering how this would be for teens. It is school holidays in New Zealand. There are two days at sea and am wondering also how rough this stretch of water can be. Many thanks.
SWFLAOK Posted February 10, 2020 #10 Share Posted February 10, 2020 The water between Tahiti and the Cook Islands can be pretty rough. The ship cannot dock at either of the Cook Islands, and anchors in an unprotected area to tender passengers through an opening in the reef to get to the dock. We tendered into Atutaki in December a few years ago. On the way back to the ship, the waves were going completely over the tender. It wasn't as bad this past September, but it still required a slow, careful process to get on and off the tender. Sometimes the Cook Island ports aren't accessible by tender so the 2 days at sea result in just a sail by.
Rare Tahitianbigkahuna Posted February 11, 2020 #11 Share Posted February 11, 2020 (edited) I've done the Cook Islands cruise 4 times, this year will make it 5 times. Only once did we miss a call and that was for Rarotonga as it was rough. The PG actually is drifting outside the reef. The ship uses it's thrust propellers and pods to stabilize the ship. The PG has a very capable/seasoned crew that frequently deals tricky tendering .... your in good hands If you blow up the picture you will see no anchor line or mooring line 😉 Edited February 11, 2020 by Tahitianbigkahuna

We went during summer though when they had the Ambassador program for kids so we had two naturalists for 3 kids total. We got to go on virtually everything they did and having our own private tour guides basically. Our kids loved the ship and the times we had (except the flight on ATN).
