Got a free cruise anywhere in the world. Kids picked Horizon out of Barcelona. I hate bills at the end. If I buy OBC here and there before I go (4/18) is it refundable? Usable in the casino? Also, my daughter is 19, I believe 18 is legal age for European cruises to drink? Thanks!!!!

Sorry didn't know that's what it's called... yes I wanted to buy some each week before we went.

What you may want to consider is Carnival gift cards. You can get a 10% discount on them via Verizon (if you're a Verizon customer) or AARP (no membership required, you just have to build up points with them - it's really easy) or others. Those you can apply to your on-board account once you board and anything you don't spend, will be refunded in the form of a gift card (or possibly a check, if the balance is small).

You can use either the gift cards or cruise cash for casino play as it gets charged to your S&S account which is where those things are applied to.

Carnival's drinking age is 21 even in Europe. There are other lines that allow parents to sign a waiver for beer and wine if I remember correctly, but Carnival isn't one of them. I'm not getting into the discussion of what it should be, or if it's OK for a parent to buy them alcohol, just simply stating their policy so you both can know what to expect going in. Have a great cruise!

Some of the cruise ships have kind of reverse ATMS. You could put aside cash weekly and put it on your card as the week went on or if they don't have those machines I'm sure you could go to guest services and have them add the cash to your account.

Also, you might want to double check about your daughter. She would of course be able to drink off ship but Carnival's website lists the drinking age as 21. I can't find anything specifically about European cruises though. I know the ships in the Caribbean, even though the drinking age is 18 in a lot of the countries, still will only let those 21 and over drink. But I'm not sure if that is because most of the ships originate in the US.

This !

Put some cash in an envelope each week, then when you board go to kiosk or guest services and put it on your account near the end of cruise to zero out your balance.

No credit card charges and no gift cards or Carnival cash to have to manipulate.

That's what I do every cruise.

Except saving 10% is pretty significant. It's really no more hassle than putting cash down. Even less so if you use the 10% off cards to buy cruise cash. No stops at GS or kiosks required.

Thanks guys! My daughter isn't a big drinker so it saves me money not buying her the cheers program!!! We have verizon, if I get the gift cards from them, I can cash it out as casino? I always pay cash anyway and never use CC

Yes. Add them to your S&S card and then upload to your Player's Bank at the end. Play a few rounds then cash out.

Tip: You can use gift cards to purchase Cruise Cash so you get onto the ship with something on your S&S account (so you can wait until later to go to Guest Services to apply the remaining gift cards).

Cruise Cash: You can only purchase a maximum of $500 per cabin and it is technically non-refundable.

Tip: Both Cruise Cash and gift cards, once applied to your S&S, can be cashed out in the casino by downloading the amount to your Player's Bank on a slot machine and then taking it to the cashier's cage and cashing out.
