Alaska 2018: Golden vs Coral

Hi everyone! Planning to honeymoon in Alaska next year and am trying to decide between the Golden Princess and Coral Princess. We'll be going Northbound. They have the same itinerary. I was on the Golden as a teenager and have fond memories, but it sounds like the Coral ranks high in Alaska.

Any thoughts from those that have been on both ships?

I love both ships. The following comments are my opinions only.

The Coral is a much smaller ship with great passenger to space ratio. If you can book a Ocean View room next to the Casino, it's a great location.

The Golden is also a small ship (larger than the Coral) but has great public spaces. If you can book a Window Suite on the Fiesta Deck, then this would be the premium way to go. Window Suites price out about the same as a mini-suite (misnomer...not a suite but an enlarged balcony cabin). This would be my first choice of cabins. Avoid F301. It is smaller than the other cabins.

Have sailed and enjoyed both but ships and while the Coral is always our first choice, the date of sailing is also a consideration for us. For example, we elected the Star over Coral one year because of the dates, but have booked the Coral for May 2018 because she sails on a Wednesday and we prefer mid-week cruises. Congratulations - and what a wonderful choice for a honeymoon!

Coral - the Golden is a nice ship - the Coral is better in that its only slightly smaller but carries 600 fewer passengers meaning less crowing, and more deck space to experience Alaska.

Those of us voicing support for the Coral are not alone. According to this poll, the Coral is favored more than the Golden.

Either would be great but Coral has fore and aft viewing areas on Baja and Caribe decks. Just go to the end of the hallway and through the solid doors. Very nice for viewing the scenery. Absolutely love Coral. :D

  • 4 months later...

We have been on both ships- the Golden 3 times and just off of the Coral.

We much prefer the Golden especially for viewing and public areas.

C752 and C753 are the BEST! And Skywalker's Lounge offers lovely viewing during

the day. The International Cafe is also much better and the Golden has "Vines".

We thought the Coral felt much more crowded and the Golden also has the Terrace Pool.

Alaska is great!
