Bluenose10 Posted September 23, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 23, 2017 In the personalised brochure it states up to 23kg per bag, but on the e-ticket it says max weight 20kg per bag. As we're only taking one each and our airline allows 30kg per person, I'm hoping it's 23kg and not 20kg! Can anyone clarify which is correct, or is this just a health and safety guideline? Do they actually weigh them? Thanks

Rare Scrapnana Posted September 23, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 23, 2017 I have never had my luggage weighed on any cruise line. Now perhaps if you had a 40 kilo bag the baggage handlers might complain.;)
Host Hattie Posted September 23, 2017 #4 Share Posted September 23, 2017 From the Cunard website Each case may weigh a maximum of 23kg due to health and safety reasons. If an individual piece of luggage exceeds 23kg at embarkation you will be recalled to the terminal and asked to remove items or repack your bags. Your baggage may also be delayed at disembarkation if you exceed this limit.
akmday10 Posted September 26, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Never had an issue with my suitcase, and I know every time its well over the limit. They give this as rough guidelines I guess, but you will be fine if its over 23kg
seacruise9 Posted September 26, 2017 #6 Share Posted September 26, 2017 Hi, I've recently sailed several times with Cunard and never had an issue. I think this is a general guideline to prevent people from bringing very large suitcases on the ship. Chuck
Whirled Peas Posted September 27, 2017 #7 Share Posted September 27, 2017 On my recent QM2 crossing, both of my bags were over 23 kg, and one was nearly 40 kg. They never said a word.
Underwatr Posted September 27, 2017 #8 Share Posted September 27, 2017 I've noticed other lines use wheeled luggage carts in the corridors but I haven't seen that on a Cunard ship. I wonder why that is?
orchestrapal Posted September 27, 2017 #9 Share Posted September 27, 2017 Do none of you OVERPACKERS care for the backs of the poor people who have to handle your overweight bags. Obviously not!! Unfortunately this goes so well with the general attitude on this board!

Unfortunately this goes so well with the general attitude on this board! I always pack according to airline rules. I'm allowed 32kg per bag. I'm usually around 28-30kg per bag and bring 3-4 cases on a 4-6 week holiday. I certainly don't overpack. That would imply packing things you don't need. I don't believe in recycling the same outfit, especially dinner wear on a transatlantic crossing. And the dock workers have various trolleys and a very sophisticated conveyer belt system that helps them move luggage. Likewise, there are trolleys etc on board ship for staff to move luggage (plus bags these days roll, unlike the trunks of yesteryear). I always tip the dock handlers too. I wonder why that is? They do, I saw plenty of them being staged in corridors and near lifts the night before disembarkation.
Host Hattie Posted September 27, 2017 #12 Share Posted September 27, 2017 Carts are used but bags still have to be lifted on and off them.
