you won't be the only childless couple - but you will be in the minority. Can you handle the Disney 'thing'? If you like WDW you'll prob' like DCL. Don't like the Mouse....welllll

Adult is defined as 18 and up. Yes they do run off the little ones at the adult pool and fm clubs in the evening. But the pool is not walled off so you should expect plenty of flow through traffic - plenty of looking for mommys, and the club area is a small part of the ship.

Can you eat in the adult only resturant every night?

In theory yes I guess. I'm not aware that they proscibe this. Good luck getting reservations. I wouldn't recommend it tho - I'd give the regular dining a chance. It is part of the experience & what you are paying for. I'd lay odds that you end up at a table for 4 with another childless couple.

Hows the adult only Beach at Cast-Aways?

Usually pretty empty and quiet....

Have you considered WindStar? IMHO, folks who like Princess but are looking for something new are potential WindStar folks...especially if you are looking for 'premium' sans kids.

This does help. It apears that disney does it better. Since princess was bought out they have gone down hill.

Hi, we are a couple in our 50's and have traveled with DCL 9 times so far, number 10 is later this month. Sometimes we have had family with us, but usually just the two of us. we love it!

The adult restaurant is called Palo's. there is no extra charge for the food, but they do charge the gratuity up front. Can't remember if it's $10 or $15. It books up very quickly, so book when you pay off your cruise, you can do this on line after your all paid up. Another option is ask for the latest dining possible, most people with kids, especially little kids prefer the early seating times. The clubs, with the acception of the Promenade lounge are adult only and they do enforce this!!

There is a family nightclub called studio sea where people can go as a family to party if they want too.

The adult pool will not have any kids in it, they do enforce it. However as stated above they can walk by behind the lounge chairs to get to other pools. I have seen a couple of kids come looking for their parents, most parents jump up and walk off to the sides with the kids to see what is wrong. If a child doesnt know ( they are little) and they wander by the pool area an employee will politely tell them that this is for grown ups only, and make sure they do leave. most kids are too busy in the kiddie pool or family pool to want to come to the adult area. There are 2 adult hot tubs too. Then there is a wonderful spa and a quiet empty adult beach on castaway cay with it's own area to eat the free BBQ and the kids are clear on the other side of the island. There are adult wine and cheese tasting and the art of entertaining series that is adult only.

You will see lots of kid son board and the theater will have alot of them to see the shows in the evenings, but they do have a comedian show for adults only too. We love it and the food is great.

Definatley make ressies for Palo...It was $10 per person just this past October.

The service was amazing, the people where great and although I love disney, we go every year for 7 - 10 days and stay on site...it was almost too much disney if that makes sense. But I am sure you will not be disappointed. I would be going back to disney but the week we can travel...holidays, kids out of school, disney is going Eastern and we want Western.

But BOOK PALO!!!!!!!!!

I just cruised Disney in October on Magic so if you have any other questions I can try to help.

We are in the mid 40's and and I am a Disneyphile and have sailed Princess and have an extended Disney cruise booked for next year.

Having said that.

I thoroughly enjoyed our 7 day Disney cruise we took a couple years back.

Dining: Our table was a two top, so couldn't address who you would be seating with, but from my understanding Disney is like most other cruise lines. In my last 5 cruises that had set seating times you share a table with other couples of various ages.

Enforcing adult only areas on-board ship: Disney is great at this, I also saw crew members pointing children to other areas of the ship when the child were in an adult only area.

Private Island: After just experiencing Prince Cays for the first time, I would rank it a very close second to Disney's as compared to other private islands (Holland America's looked very, very nice beachwise but we didn't actually go ashore due the fact that on our one and only Holland America cruise we were only in port until 12:30 pm)

Disney actually docks at the island which causes me to rate it slightly above Princess Cays. Otherwise the main areas are fairly similiar and well paved. The adult only area on Disney island is actually a tramride away (although you could walk it, since they take you down an abandoned runway), but because of this "remoteness" kids just don't show up. The actual adult beach is not the greatest, since there are small rocks in bay, but you are definitely away from most of the people (and all of the kids) but still have servers bring you drinks.

Disney's version of Princess Patters will list the public character interactions which will definetly attract the children. So if you want to totally avoid children then make note of this, but in general I did not find too many children out of control.

You can only make 1 Dinner, 1 Champagne Brunch and 1 High Tea reservation for Palo, you can do this once you are paid in full online or have your TA do it for you. But once aboard and depending on how full the ship is you can call or visit Palo daily to see if they can get you in for that day or night, they do try to please.

You can now request a table for 2 on your regular dining rotation, second seating is usually better if your trying to avoid alot of children. Cruising in the fall and winter months would be better also to avoid a ship full of kids.

No children are allowed in the adult only pool but they do travel through the area but quickly since there is nothing for them there.

My husband and I are both in our 40's we do have a soon to be 9 year old, we have been on 8 Disney cruise. Our last cruise with them was on Aug 18, on the Magic for the 14 day repo cruise through the Panama Canal. We would cruise Disney if we didn't have a child, we love it.

Ahhh... to get to talk about my favorite subject in the world, Disney Cruise Line... :D

DCL is very different than the pre-conceived notion a lot of people have about a "Mickey Mouse" cruise. The Magic and the Wonder are drop-dead gorgeous, and luxurious. All smooth woods and polished metals, the touch of whimsy is never overpowering or garish. These are just truly beautiful ships.

DCL does the best in the industry at keeping the adult areas just that -- adult only. And I have never wanted for something fun and "grownup" to do -- from wine tastings and dessert presentation classes, to the very R-rated comedians at night in the club. And when my little boy and I wanted to do something together, there was a ton of options for that, too.

The staff treats you like you are the only guest on the ship. I had a waiter at Castaway Cay actually wade out to where I had drug my lounge chair to be half in the water, and bring me my drink. Everyone from the room steward to the person polishing the elevator to the Captain himself always had a genuine smile and a friendly greeting.

And as others have said, DON'T miss Palo, especially for brunch. YUM.

If you can, book one of their special cruises where you stop at Castaway Cay twice. Believe me, you will never want to leave.

I miss the Magic... but over the past two years, their fares have gone up up up. I can't afford them anymore. :( But I will be back on that ship as soon as I financially can!! :)

Have a *great* time on the Star!!! I'll be looking for your cruise report. I'm excited about getting to sail on the Grand and explore a new ship.. and I'm really excited about only having to drive 20 minutes to get on the ship, instead of flying all day and visiting airports. :)

Have an awesome cruise!

we've done 4 disney cruises and 2 Princess cruises with our 3rd Princess cruise booked for 3/19/06. I would honestly say that both cruise lines have their pros and their cons. Even though Disney does have their adult only areas, it's not themed for adults. I find that a lot of their activites are more geared towards families and kids naturally. Keep in mind that if you like to gamble (I don't) you won't have a casino on board. Disney does have a real movie theater which is a huge bonus. The cabins are bigger on Disney, the balconies are a lot bigger on Princess. Service in the cabins are the same, I've had great stewards on both lines. I personally like the food better on Disney and Palo is great but you will find a lot more kids dining than on Princess and they don't offer Personal Choice, only traditional dining. The other poster was correct, you can only have one reservation at Palo for dinner but can put your name on a waiting list for another night and we've been successful doing this. If you like nightlife, you will find that the nights are quieter on the Disney ships, not as many people out and about and most people seem to end the day earlier. One huge bonus for Disney is the fact that you don't have to tender to their private island and they do have an adult only beach, you will love it here.

As long as you're a disney fan and enjoy children, then cruising on the Wonder or the Magic will be great. If you don't enjoy having children around, then don't do it as you may be disappointed.

You may or may not get a "table for 4 with another childless couple". Our very first cruise was March '99 and we were with a large family group. At our table, we had 2 families with kids (hubby and I, our 2 kids, my brother in law, wife and daughter) and they put a couple on their honeymoon with us. They still had a good time but we felt kinda sorry for them. Disney was only 6 months into the cruise industry at the time so maybe they have perfected that now. We have only traveled with large groups since then so it hasn't happened again. Even with as many kids as there are in the restaurants, you rarely see any of them misbehaving. They may fall asleep during dinner because they've had so much fun during the day. The wait staff is incredible with kids and really do a lot to entertain! Plus food arrives really quickly so little ones can eat and get moving again. I would at least show up the first night and see what happens. You will probably be pleasantly surprised. If not, there is always room service!

I have to disagree about not liking Disney if you do not like kids. I see more kids on Celebrity, Princess and Carnival than on Disney (probably because Disney's kids activities are on their own deck). Disney ships are quite elegant and detailed. Yes, they do have character decors and designs ... Mickey Mouse or Ariel in Bronze at the entrance to the one restaurant ... very classy sort of stuff. They also have Donald Duck hagning off the rear of the ship ... painting the name of the ship ... whimsical ... but not tacky.

They do have character events, but that is not the mainstay.
