US Citizens Warned to Avoid Cuba

Based on the travel warning, what if NCL would change the itineraries, because the safety of their passengers is their prime concern, and replace Havana with a Bahamas stop. Contract says they can do that and owe you nothing. Might be a few angry people posting on here.

As stated in the latest warning concerning Cuba travel the source of the problem is yet UNKNOWN:

"Over the past several months, 21 U.S. Embassy employees have suffered a variety of injuries from attacks of an unknown nature. The affected individuals have exhibited a range of physical symptoms, including ear complaints, hearing loss, dizziness, headache, fatigue, cognitive issues, and difficulty sleeping. Investigators have been unable to determine who is responsible or what is causing these attacks."

Considering there are currently over 100 foreign embassies on Havana and many are NOT considered to be friends of the U.S.A. No one really knows who or what actually is causing the problems IN THE U.S. Embassy.

It seems like staying for any extended period of time in the EMBASSY may be the culprit? I do not think any cruise passengers will be staying in the Embassy or in government run hotels would therefore be unlikely to experience problems.

As far as the problems in the building go I recall back in the 70's a large educational institution on Long Island had almost the same exact problems with very similar if not exactly the same symptoms. The building was part of the medical educational facility in Stonybrook LI and was traced to some sort of noise and pressure problem in the buildings heating and air handling system.

No doubt something is wrong, but until the cause is 100% identified I find it silly that the embassy building will still have U.S. staff still positioned in it?

1) Of course NCL will keep the cruises as scheduled. If people choose to stay on the ship, that's a shot at more revenue for NCL.

2) The cause is unknown, but it is highly unlikely that it's the Cuban government. As Sauer-kraut points out upthread, Canadian officials were also affected. Cuba (to my shame as a Canadian who values liberty) has a great relationship with Canada both in terms of business in general and tourism in particular. The Castro monarchy is many things, but it's not so stupid that it would jeopardise a good relationship with Canada by attacking our foreign service staff.

Don't know why any American would WANT to go to a country that holds us in distain.

While governments of some countries may hold the U.S. in disdain, it does not follow that all the residents of those countries do the same. IMO, people are people pretty much wherever you go. Some friendly, some not, some helpful, some not , etc.. Open your mind!:)

Just tell the locals you are in from Canada, been to Cuba everyone is super friendly. Most of the islands income is from tourist and they have strict laws about messing with tourist so it is a really safe place for a tourist... maybe not for a diploma... That's my 2 cents haven't been there for a couple years.
