Two of the other three can go in either way. Pick a side and dont worry about it.
wemjam Posted October 3, 2017 #7 Share Posted October 3, 2017 We always pick port side and most times we are in port so that we can see it. Port side is the LEFT side when you are facing the front of the ship. Hubby loves to watch us go in and out of port.:D
stargate fan Posted October 3, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 3, 2017 I have the option of the left or right side of Dream, out of NO. Which is best for viewing going into ports, if anyone knows? Or port or starboard, is that the official language LOL.port is on left, right? Thanks, Donna We now book only starboard Lido balconies on Dream, Breeze, and Magic because smoking is allowed on the port side of the Lanai on deck 5. Yes, it does drift upwards, even when the ship is moving. We had a port balcony on Lido on our first Dream cruise and experienced the smoke drifting up five decks first hand. Pyxie Posted October 4, 2017 #9 Share Posted October 4, 2017 I think it varies with ports. Port side of the ship will give a great view of the French Quarter when sailing out of New Orleans though. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare mexicobob Posted October 4, 2017 #10 Share Posted October 4, 2017 On our last trip on The Dream we were on the Port side which worked out well. May dock on the other side next time.
Rare Keith1010 Posted October 4, 2017 #11 Share Posted October 4, 2017 I would select the room in the best location and go with either side. Keith
Cyber Kat Posted October 4, 2017 #12 Share Posted October 4, 2017 Book an aft cabin and you can see both sides. [emoji16] Sent from my iPad using Forums
momof4girls Posted October 4, 2017 #13 Share Posted October 4, 2017 Starboard side was great for us when we cruised on the Dream. We had a cove balcony near the area where people boarded the tender and entered and exited the ship at ports. Made for very interesting people watching. Micahs Grandad Posted October 4, 2017 #14 Share Posted October 4, 2017 Thought it was great sailing down the Mississippi and to get the most out of it went out on deck and went from side to side as we went down the river.
LostPuppy Posted October 4, 2017 #15 Share Posted October 4, 2017 Port side out of NOLA has the advantage of being able to see ships going the opposite way. If there is another Carnival ship (Triumph?) in port you may be able to see them as you leave/arrive, (e.g. if your cruise ends on Sunday and the Triumph sails on Saturday, you will meet on the river Saturday night). Seeing another cruise ship closing at 20 knots and passing within 200' is pretty neat! Other than that, personal preference overrides any other reasons. carnivalgirl51 Posted October 4, 2017 #16 Share Posted October 4, 2017 I always book the port side. I just like it. Also, I have watched the Dream leave NO via the webcam and see that the ship makes a 180 degree turn once it leave the docking area and when it sails down the Mississippi, the port side gets to see the French quarter when leaving port. We were on the Elation and passed the Dream in the river. It was a rush as that huge ship blew by us.
