Giantfan13 Posted October 9, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 9, 2017 We have booked a day trip out of Rome to Florence from Termini. I have heard that Termini is immense and I was wondering how does one find where you are supposed to leave from? this is my booking info: Train:Frecciarossa 9514 date 04/11/2017 Departure: Roma Termini (time: 08:20); Arrival: Firenze S. M. Novella (time: 09:51) Carriage: 8; Place: 13D, 14D, (Mandatory reservation) ; Any idea where we go when we get to Termini? Cheers Len
Rare cruisemom42 Posted October 10, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 10, 2017 You will enter Termini from the front. Look for large electronic boards that show the numbers and final destinations of all the upcoming trains. They look like this: Rather like at airports. I know there is at least one or two in the outer waiting area where there are also a lot of small shops. There are also a few more very near the point where you access the actual tracks. You will watch these boards for your train -- look for it by number as the safest way to be sure it's the right one, as there may be more than one train (different classes) headed to the same destination. Not more than 30 minutes ahead of departure (and sometimes as little as 15 minutes prior), the number of the track from which your train will depart will show up. The Italian word for track is "binario". Once the track is listed, waste no time in heading to the correct track. But that's not all -- now you have to find the correct car or carriage. Your carriage is listed as 8. The carriage number for each car is usually listed on or beside the door of the carriage. Some are electronic, some are actually painted on. The cars are arranged in order by number -- but sometimes the highest number car is closest, and sometimes it's the lowest number car. Just pay attention. You don't absolutely have to get on at car #8, but it's usually easier than threading your way through the narrow aisles of the train cars inside (with everyone else getting on, putting away luggage, etc.) Then find your seats, and enjoy. At some point a conductor will come along and will want to see your ticket (either paper or on your phone). That's about it. Your station will be announced prior to arrival and small screens in the cars also usually provide info such as the name of the next stop, how much longer until arrival, the train's speed, etc. Termini isn't "huge" like major airports are huge, but it's not small either and it's usually very busy. For a daytrip you won't have luggage but be very careful with any belongings -- purse, daypack -- as pickpockets are active there.

dogs4fun Posted October 10, 2017 #4 Share Posted October 10, 2017 Cruisemom has given you excellent info. The following is a link to a Termini Station Map. From the map (click on platform level) you can familiarize yourself with the station. http://www.romatermini.com/en/map/
euro cruiser Posted October 10, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 10, 2017 Frecciarosa #9514 goes to Milan with stops at Roma Tiburtina, Florence, and Bologna on the way. The signboard at Termini will say Milano, although it might also note Firenze on the side. It is scheduled to depart from track 1 but that can change, so always check the board. Recheck the signage at the track when you get there to be sure there hasn't been a change. https://prm.rfi.it/qo_prm/QO_Partenze_SiPMR.aspx?Id=2247&dalle=08.00&alle=08.59&ora=08.00&guid=461f7751-bb95-4a2d-937f-b9d0988e815b
