jetsfan58 Posted October 14, 2017 #1 Share Posted October 14, 2017 Looking to book a cruise aboard the refurbished Carnival Elation. Does anyone know if there is a current review available following the Dry Dock updates?
Cruisegirl6 Posted October 14, 2017 #2 Share Posted October 14, 2017 Yes there are a couple and you may just want to avoid reading them, so you don't get worried.
jeff92k7 Posted October 14, 2017 #3 Share Posted October 14, 2017 As with all cruises immediately following a dry dock, there have been some issues that they are having to work out. They will get them fixed and the ship will be fine. I would suggest to book whenever you want. Any cruise or ship can have issues. The Elation is no different. Just decide before you leave to have a great vacation.

Cruisegirl6 Posted October 18, 2017 #5 Share Posted October 18, 2017 The most recent is SCAnthony members name....his first post was review on October 12....title such as junk/garbage....he even has photos posted. On the right of this screen, if you scroll down a bit far right you see list of Carnival ships click on Elation.
JawjaFatBoy Posted October 18, 2017 #6 Share Posted October 18, 2017 We're sailing on her in just over 2 weeks. I'll do my best to post up a review and photos when we get back!

The one complaining of burnt oil smell everywhere has been there forever.
marshhawk Posted October 20, 2017 #8 Share Posted October 20, 2017 The last 3 reviews are all posted from the same week, two complain and one had a wonderful time. At least that is the way I read it, but all reviews are the same, one loves it, and one hates it. as my momma used to say-where ever you go-there you are. it tool me a while, but it's our attitude that makes our day. 51 days and I will find out. jdoc2010 Posted October 22, 2017 #9 Share Posted October 22, 2017 I just got off the Elation yesterday (10/21). Will try to post a quick review later. It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. I cruise to have a relaxing and fun time, so not much will bother me. There were still a lot of maintenance issues and workers on the ship. I didnt notice it much on the Empress deck (we were AFT Empress), but you could still smell paint on Main/Riveria Deck. The Cole Porter Lounge had a lot of issues with the furniture and details .. ie the trim peices falling off/sticking out. A few of the seats fell apart while we where in there. The ladies restroom by the casino only had 1 stall available - the other stall door was completely off its hinges. Oh and the Empress lobby bar mid ship reeked of a cheesy smell - the drains need to be seriously sanitized and bleached. The fruit flies/gnats were insane. My kids tried out the new Waterworks - said the waterslides lacked water... I personally didnt try them out. We had no issues with our cabin, other than it being warm most of the time. We had the cool air cranked as high as it would go, and still at 2:00 AM in the morning, would wake up sweating. Overall, it was a good cruise. The crew make the ship fun and entertaining. We will be going back in a few weeks to try it out again, so hopefully the minor issues are resolved.
Cruisegirl6 Posted October 22, 2017 #10 Share Posted October 22, 2017 :o:eek::mad: I am sorry for all of that, Carnival should be ashamed of themselves with all those problems on a single ship, that ship surely should not be running with passengers! Jdoc2010 thank you for the review and sucking all the problems up and glad you had a nice time!!

JaguarGirl Posted October 23, 2017 #12 Share Posted October 23, 2017 I just got off the Elation on 10/21 also. We were on Main Deck cabin 148. Our air worked great. We only had one problem on the day at Half Moon Cay. Toilet would not flush. It eventually flushed on its on. There was still a lot of work being done during the cruise. We were not impressed with the menu in the dining room. We had Your Time Dining. Acer and Allan were great. Allan made a dog and frog out of paper and gave them to my grandbabies. Acer made sure that the 4 year old who is a picky eater always had something. He went and got a bowl of strawberries one night when she wouldn't eat anything else. I would cruise the Elation again. Aquaman#1 Posted October 23, 2017 #13 Share Posted October 23, 2017 I also just finished a cruise 10-21 on Elation! Overall, a great cruise for us. We had an OV on deck 4. We did experience very low water pressure the first night in our sink (shower was fine). We asked our stateroom attendant about it the next afternoon, and later the night it was fixed. Our a/c did fine, but we also take a small box type fan with us for circulation. We also noticed some of the upholstery was coming apart here and there, as if it was done in a rush. The inspiration dining room looked great, glad they got rid of those booths! There was still finishing touches being done almost everywhere. Painting, tile work, trim. Upper decks on the front of the ship were taped off, work still in progress. But there was nothing that we could not overlook, and we really had a great time! Staff was great. Oh, but the Pizza Pirate, there was always one guy working (that we could see) and he would disappear to the back for minutes at a time, come back with a couple of pizzas, which would be gone in a matter of seconds. It seems to me the need to invest another worker or two to keep up with the demand, because he always seemed to be overwhelmed! And oddly enough, it seems I always saw the same guy working, lol. The new Guy's Burger Joint was good, and they kept that line moving pretty smoothly. Same with The Blue Iguana. Oh, and there is a buffet at breakfast with an omelet station at Guy's, with cereals, yogurt and milk at the condiment station. We got breakfast there, and there never was much of a wait. Some areas of the ship didn't get updated, but overall, it looked pretty fresh. Also, I do believe the ducktail that was added helped to stabilize the ship a little more. We cruised it last November, and the movement was the worst I'd ever felt on a cruise, it what seemed to be fairly calm water. This year, the seas were a lot rougher, but the ship was really steady on all but one night. I'd cruise her again. Matter of fact, I will in January of next year! I can put up with some work being done as long as it doesn't completely close up venues. Last year they replaced nearly all of the wooden decking around the pool on the Valor over the course of a few days. Kinda kinked things up a little, but everyone still had a great time.
