mara93 Posted December 13, 2017 #30 Share Posted December 13, 2017 I bought Russian nesting dolls & a music box in SPB along with magnets w/amber inside, a Dalecarlian wooden horse sculpture in Stockholm, & a ceramic house (representative of the buildings in Old Town from Estonia. I bought lots of sweets & treats for people as well. Jerky & marzipan from Estonia, chocolate from Finland, etc.
drakes2 Posted December 14, 2017 #31 Share Posted December 14, 2017 I bought my Granddaughter a special edition Pandora charm from Sweden. It was the Ameliaborg castle with a 14K gold crown on bottom. Not sure if it's really what the sales girl said it was but I do know it's not available elsewhere. Regardless she loves it. drakes2 Posted December 14, 2017 #32 Share Posted December 14, 2017 I also bought several ceramic nail files with the Russian dolls on them. Great souvenir or stocking stuffer. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Forums mobile app
Mary Louise Posted December 14, 2017 Author #33 Share Posted December 14, 2017 I love pandora, maybe there is a charm at all of the ports. That would certainly be something to look for.
drakes2 Posted December 15, 2017 #34 Share Posted December 15, 2017 I also bought a Pandora bicycle charm in Amsterdam prior to the cruise at Pandora store. For sure there will be something you won't find at home. Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Forums mobile app

Sonchyne4U Posted January 6, 2018 #36 Share Posted January 6, 2018 Can you use credit cards in most ports or what currency do you need?
TravelingAPor Posted January 6, 2018 #37 Share Posted January 6, 2018 I bought my Christmas angel ornament, made from amber bits, in Tallinn. The prices were reasonable, in Tallinn and it just got more expensive, as we cruised up the Baltic Sea. If you see something you like, buy it! You may not see it in SPB. heliwoman Posted January 7, 2018 #39 Share Posted January 7, 2018 Favorite souvenir : my kuksa cup ( careful , some are manufactured, some are hand made) Yes, it takes a few cups of coffee ( or tea) to break it in, but after that you have it forever and you choose one that fits your hand perfectly. https://ultimathule.fi/en/291-kuksa-cups/ Beautiful wool sweaters in Tallin ( still great condition after years of use) Did you get these in Helsinki? I don't want to make assumptions. And at this rate with all of the wonderful suggestions I'm going to need a 2nd suitcase and a 2nd job for all of the unique items. dogs4fun Posted January 7, 2018 #40 Share Posted January 7, 2018 Is there a place in Estonia that you would recommend to buy Amber? Thank you ML I have twice purchased amber in Tallinn. There are lots of shops selling amber and the prices are, indeed, better than the prices I found at the tourist shops in St. Petersburg. I don't know that any one shop is better than another. The shops in which I made purchases had the item that most appealed to me at a price I considered fair - you may have to shop around to find a piece that is special to you. I can't remember the name of the shop in which I first purchased amber, but know that it was located on Pikk, left side of the street (we entered the town through Fat Margaret on this particular occasion). On a later trip, I purchased a lovely amber pendant in the old town. The shop was located on Vana-Viru and had a big sign over the top of the shop that reads, in large black letters, "Baltic Amber". Check-out some of the many shops offering amber and you are certain to find something that appeals to your taste and budget.
drakes2 Posted January 7, 2018 #41 Share Posted January 7, 2018 Don't forget if you shop at any large stores to get a tax form for your purchases. I got 1 from Pandora in Amsterdam and Sweden. Also bought some nice French perfume from ICI Paris. Received 30 bucks refund in taxes paid. Chocolate Teapot Posted January 19, 2018 #42 Share Posted January 19, 2018 I have a collection of Russian lacquer boxes. I didn't start out intending to collect them, but I saw one I really liked, then another and another. The price can vary dramatically, regardless of the size, so I recommend looking at the quality of the artwork. I also have a Dala Horse, and whilst the traditional ones are red, they are available in all sizes and colours. There is a shop just off the main square on the Gamla Stan which specialises in them.
