jaxcruiser66 Posted November 1, 2017 Author #126 Share Posted November 1, 2017 Still following and enjoying all the pics! Thank you for all of the effort-much appreciated! I have a question about the live music venues (particularly the spot where the singers were singing the standards with the orchestra) if you don’t mind... did you find it was easy to go see live music “on the fly” or did this require some level of advance planning? We will be traveling with small kids, so if the moon aligns with Jupiter and Saturn, and the kids are happy in the kids club, and not falling asleep after dinner, and not otherwise requiring parental attention, and my wife and I actually get an hour or 2 in the evening to explore, I would love to see some great live music. But given the above considerations, it’ll likely be an impromptu thing and not a “plan”. Is that doable in your experience? Thanks again for all the great pics! Great question Gatordad! My experience was that the Jazz On 4 club was mostly empty when we saw the Remedy Jazz Quartet. When the Orchestra played with the entertainers from Cats it was much more crowded. Look in the daily planner to see when the less known entertainers (I think the Remedy Jazz Quartet is leaving the Oasis soon) are performing.... you will more than likely have the place to yourself. Jazz on 4 only seat about 100-120 people. It's not a big venue. Similar in size to the Comedy Club.
jaxcruiser66 Posted November 1, 2017 Author #127 Share Posted November 1, 2017 DAY 6 - COZUMEL, MEXICO For Cozumel we had pre-booked to spend the day at Nachi Cocom. We read really good reviews both here on CC, but also on Trip Adviser. The cost is $55 per person for the day. It is all inclusive. Some extras to consider is an additional $40 ($20 cab ride each way), and a tip for your server. We gave our a $10 bill. The facilities are nice. We had a great spot on the beach under our own palapa. Drinks were plentiful. The lunch we had was great! The beach is really nice. It was a relaxing day. We enjoyed Nachi Cocom and would recommend it to other visitors. The Carnival Dream was already in port when we got in. There were a total of 3 Carnival ships in port, and 2 Royal Caribbean ships. There was another ship located at the pier closer to downtown. They were working in this piece of equipement on the Oasis... does anyone know what it does??? Nachi Cocom Beach... kah1215 Posted November 1, 2017 #129 Share Posted November 1, 2017 The following are some deck pictures while we were docking in Nassau. We were up on Deck 16 over looking the main pools on Deck 15... I was on the Allure Of The Seas for the same week. We were wondering what was going on. We saw the Oasis leave while on the beach...we thought it was our boat for a second! That makes complete sense now. They were later in the cruise. We did not attend those. The formal nights are the 2nd night (Monday) and the 6th night (Friday). The 2nd formal night is the lobster dinner! jaxcruiser66 Posted November 3, 2017 Author #137 Share Posted November 3, 2017 Nachi Cocom Beach looks really nice, how far from the ship and did you take a taxi and if so how much? It's about a 20 minute drive right down the main road from the port. The cost of the cab is $17 (fixed) for up to 4 people. We gave the driver a $20 bill. So $40 round trip. Get more people to go with you and it works out cheaper per person.
jaxcruiser66 Posted November 3, 2017 Author #138 Share Posted November 3, 2017 While at Nachi Cocom there was a group/family of "South American Coati". They were really cute. I did NOT attempt to pet them, but on the surface they appeared very friendly. They came right up to you (looking for food I guess). One walked over my feet! :) Read More about them here... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_American_coati You can ee several of them here... They offer snorkeling trips, jet skis, banana boat rides, and massages...all at an additional cost. There was no music that I was aware of. Hvnfuninmn33 Posted November 6, 2017 #143 Share Posted November 6, 2017 Heading onto Oasis this coming Sunday doing the Western Caribbean itinerary. We are considering taking a taxi to Doctors Cave Beach Club in Jamaica but may consider the tour based on your feedback. While in Labadee, is there another beach area beside the very rocky area and is their transportation to it? On the sea day, you mentioned lunch at American Icon on Deck 3 - is that a pay restaurant or is that considered the main dining room? We were on Oasis last year and I don't remember it at all (but maybe not realizing it was called American Icon). Either way, that buffet looks amazing if only to go see all the carvings, etc that the chefs have done with the fruit! What a great review! 7 days to go....... We are considering taking a taxi to Doctors Cave Beach Club in Jamaica but may consider the tour based on your feedback. I enjoyed the tour for the price. It was fairly inexpensive and we got to see a lot of the island. While in Labadee, is there another beach area beside the very rocky area and is their transportation to it? Yes... I believe it's "Nellies" beach area. As you get off the ship and walk down the main walkway... it will be to the right. We went to the left. On the sea day, you mentioned lunch at American Icon on Deck 3 - is that a pay restaurant or is that considered the main dining room? Main Dining Room... Not a pay meal. Make sure you go to the sea day lunch on day 5. We were on Oasis last year and I don't remember it at all (but maybe not realizing it was called American Icon). CTCruiser74 Posted November 8, 2017 #148 Share Posted November 8, 2017 That night after dinner we went to the Headliner Show. For this trip they had Abba-Cadabra. Yep...and Abba tribute band. I am not a huge Abba fan. But, I know the music. How can you not if you lived through the 70's and 80's. They were pretty good. I enjoyed the show. uUphEThG_R0 This is the Cruise Director Jeff Arpin... I wasn't sure about him at first. But he really grew on me through-out the week. I watched his show on the TV everyday. He had really good advice about most things that were happening the following day. This waited for us at bed time! This ends Day 4. Tomorrow (Day 5) is a sea day...then Cozumel Mexico. We were on the same sailing too. I agree with your assessment of CD Jeff. I was really skeptical at first but he grew on me as the week progressed. CTCruiser74 Posted November 8, 2017 #149 Share Posted November 8, 2017 We were on the same sailing and also went to Nachi Cocom in Cozumel. It was a very enjoyable day and the water was the clearest water I have ever seen! Reading your review has brought back a lot of great memories from our cruise. Thanks for sharing. I believe it's "Nellies" beach area. As you get off the ship and walk down the main walkway... it will be to the right. We went to the left.... The best non-rocky beach is Columbus Cove. I believe Nellie's and Barefoot beaches are for suite pax or those with cabana reservations. As you look at the island, Columbus Cove will be to the right. The water park (all the big inflatables) will be next to it. There is a tram that will take you to that beach. You pick it up just inside the entrance to the island. Have fun!
