VideoTech Posted November 24, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 24, 2017 We are considering a cruise from Venice on the Star in June of 2018. Saw a mention that the ship will be "fresh from drydock" then. Does anyone know when Star is going into drydock? We're trying to pick a week for the cruise in June. Thanks! Rare All-ready2cruise Posted November 25, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 25, 2017 Star won't be due for another dry dock a couple of years... We cruised on Star Sept 2015 and it looked great. Refurbished March 2015 After a month-long dry dock, Norwegian Star received enhancements to every part of the onboard experience, from a brand new restaurant, O'Sheehan's Bar & Grill, and the new Mojito Bar, updated design and décor in all public spaces, to a refurbishment of the whole lobby area of Deck 8 . There are number of upgrades as well as a ship wide refresh, including carpets, upholstery, digital signage, plus both of the photo galleries and the casino. ellie1145 Posted November 25, 2017 #4 Share Posted November 25, 2017 Sailed Star from Venice at end of September. The areas mentioned have been revamped (these are revenue producing areas) but we wished the cabins had been updated. We had 3 outside cabins on various decks and all were very dated and in need of modernising. Guess new carpets in staterooms are not cash cows. Looking on the ncl site the ship will arrive in Barcellona on May 06 2018 and the Next cruise will be May 24 2018 from Barcellona. There's a almost 3 weeks hole in the scheduling. So I think there will be a drydock in May 2018. Inviato dal mio SM-G950F utilizzando Tapatalk

WanderlustJourney Posted December 5, 2017 #8 Share Posted December 5, 2017 Exciting! I wonder what updates they will be doing...
chengkp75 Posted December 5, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 5, 2017 Probably not many. The Star has reached the age, over 15 years, where ships are required to drydock every 2.5 years (the actual term is "twice in 5 years, so there is some leeway on scheduling). So, this will mainly be a technical drydocking, and since she had quite an update in 2015, which I think was part of the "NCL Next" fleet upgrade, I don't think they will do much to the front of house other than "running repairs" like carpeting and soft goods on a case by case basis. WanderlustJourney Posted December 6, 2017 #10 Share Posted December 6, 2017 I'm hoping for some thermal suite upgrades... I've heard that the Star doesn't have any of the heated loungers, probably one of the only reasons I get a thermal suite pass. Guess we will see! Nelsj099 Posted December 8, 2017 #11 Share Posted December 8, 2017 I was on the Star in October/November and a lot of the crew were talking about the dry dock. When I asked the spa about heated loungers they said that they were hoping for them with this dry dock.
IrieBajan54 Posted December 8, 2017 #12 Share Posted December 8, 2017 (edited) Was on the Star a few weeks ago. All the chairs in the complimentary dining rooms need to be replaced. When you sit down it's like being in a crater or sitting in a bean bag. Edited December 8, 2017 by IrieBajan54 space
cpcanuck Posted December 8, 2017 #13 Share Posted December 8, 2017 I thought I read somewhere that the name of O’Sheehan Pub might be changing on some ships... would that be what is happening?
Slark Posted December 8, 2017 #14 Share Posted December 8, 2017 I bet it's just technical as stated above. You can get a lot done in 3 weeks, but it would be cutting it close.
