I am currently doing the Xmas markets multi generational cruise with Uniworld. If anyone has any questions I would be happy to answer or track down the answer. Internet coverage is a little spotty so I am not going to write a review until I get home.

It is wonderful so far and the kids are having a blast.

You will love it especially if they have the current crew working that sailing. I always marvel at how hard these crews work. We are on our last day of the cruise and the kids are starting to get sad knowing that tomorrow we fly home. Even though this ship is not one of Uniworld's grandest, this probably has been one of our favorite Uniworld cruises. I just can't believe how the kids embraced river cruising. I thought it would be be a struggle to get them interested in anything cultural, but they love it. I caught them reading the Uniworld catalog yesterday looking for other generational cruises.

I can't give the staff enough credit for making this a great trip for our family. Money well spent.

I have only been on ocean cruises with my family, and thought river cruises were only suited to adults and couples? Do they have staterooms that sleep 4, or do you have to upgrade to a suite? Uniworld definitely caught my eye as having ships that I would love to travel on. Are the multi generational cruises specific sailings? Tell me more please!

Thank you for your encouraging reply.

I appreciate that the topic of food is a subjective one, but how was the choice, and quality, of the food onboard?

I read the article and went to the Uniworld website, but it was still very thin on the information regarding booking as it only allows you to book for two people and lists only one ship that has staterooms that sleep 3. Did you just book 2 rooms and they discounted each child by 50% and gave you adjoining rooms? Cheers.

The River Queen is my favourite Uniworld ship. Yes, the cabins are 'cozy', but each one of the crews were wonderful and there is just something about the ship ...!

Do you think the kids would be willing to post a review for us ? It would be delightful to read about the cruise from their perspective.

Hi,

They don"t have stateroom that sleep 4. You have to buy 2 staterooms. They do however give 50% off the kids fares. The rooms were not connecting but they were adjoining. The generational cruises are specific sailings and I believe they run 5 different routes that offer them. 100% endorse giving it a try!

Food is typical Uniworld quality and variety. They do however have a kids menu at dinner and they have typical kid fare. Our kids never went hungry and enjoyed being able to order a burger or pizza and being able to order "fancy food".

Good idea. They are asleep right now, but I will have them write a mini review on this thread and make it clear that they are the authors. Both kids told me on the second to last day of the cruise that they prefer the Uniworld cruise to a Disney cruise. Keep in mind Disney cruises were the gold standard of cruises in their minds and they begged us constantly for more Disney cruises. They now want to do another Uniworld. I told the crew this and they viewed it as the ultimate compliment.

Thank you, exactly what I was hoping to confirm. Adjoining would be perfect! [emoji1305]

Our first river cruise was on the River Queen for Christmas Markets loved it. There were four children on the cruise two loved it and had a great time! I will say these two were well traveled young ladies. The other two spent more time with video games. The crew really enjoyed having them onboard, this was before the multi generational cruises.

11 Year old Daughter

"I loved the cruise because all of the friendly staff and fun tours. It was interesting to see how people lived in the medieval times. The boat was very unique and was nicely decorated for Christmas. The room was small but fine to just sleep in. The bed was comfy and Tani the housekeeper was so nice and kept the room very tidy. Tani left me and my sister Advent calendars on the first night. She also left us Xmas gifts after most dinners. The food was tasty but the kids menu did not have many options. That was ok because sometimes I ordered off of the adult menu. On some nights I would eat at the kids table and sometimes I would eat with my parents and their new friends. I liked the kids area near the adult bar because it was a fun place to hang out. Louisa the kids nanny was very friendly and welcoming. I liked meeting kids from South Africa and Australia. They were fun and friendly. I would do one these trips again and hope my parents take me another Uniworld trip. I liked the river cruise more than my past Disney cruises."

"This trip was an unforgettable experience that will be treasured forever. The moment I walked on the boat I was amazed at how cordial the atmosphere and staff were. They greeted us with warm welcomes that made us feel right at home. After the staff willingly help us with our bags to our room, we went to our first meal in the dining room. The waiters and waitresses were helpful and made dining fun. One day at lunch, a waiter caught me trying to mix my coke and ice cream together. He then brought me a wine glass full a coke and an entire bowl full of ice cream. It was the little acts like that from the staff that made this trip so special. As for the menu, there wasn't a lot of selection on the kids menu which left us with limited options each night but the kids always had an option to order of the adult menu. Our room was on the bottom floor of the ship. It wasn't the biggest room, but at least it had a very comfortable bed that was easy to fall asleep on even if you're jet lagged. Our cleaning person for our room was extremly thoughtful, her name was Tani. She would leave us presents on our beds each night that made this experince even more special. We would do a tour each day in a new city in Germany which we sailed to at night. I liked this because we didn't waste touring time during the day. I loved all the tours and tourguides. I especially liked this tour guide named Charles. He made boring old tours into fun tours that intrigued all the kids. On this trip I met many new people from different countires such as South Africa and Australia. It was cool to learn about differnet people and where they were from. What really surprised me about this trip is that i liked it better than a disney cruise. I really recommend this trip and i am sure you will love this as much as I did! 10/10!"

Thank you, daughters of Los_Pepes, for taking the time to write about your river cruise. This is a great help for parents and children in the future. Good to know that on the multi-generational cruises they have a nanny to make sure the kids are made to feel special and looked after. Advent calendars, that is very thoughtful!

It is lovely to read that you enjoyed it so much. If your parents are stuck for ideas of where to take you on another cruise I recommend the South of France (if Uniworld has a specialised cruise there) where you can learn a lot about the Romans (they built massive bridges and amphitheatres). Try to avoid the Summer if you do not like the heat. The Danube is also nice.

I hope you as a family can have another unforgettable river cruise.

Wishing you a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year.

To Los Pepes daughters...

Thank you for your reviews. Was the guide, Charles, a slim fellow with wild hair? Did he live in Rothenberg? If he is, then we had him as a guide once. And yes, he made it lots of fun.

Which cities or towns were your favourites? How many Christmas markets did you go to?

What one thing are you glad you packed, and is there anything you should have packed, but forgot at home?

Merry Christmas,

RB

It is Dad replying. It was the same Charles. He actually just moved out of his apartment in Rothenberg. He was very good with the kids and kept their interest. Charles spent some time in the Air Force over in Germany and will talk military history if you feel inclined to ask questions. Most likely the best guide I have ever had on a Uniworld cruise. The nanny (perhaps the most overqualified nanny in history) was a guide used by Uniworld in Venice. She now works for Uniworld full time and is also a total gem. I think, based on her recommendation, that we will take the girls on a Venice generational cruise. It is changed for the generational cruise so it softens the blow of doing the same cruise twice. When the girls get back from shopping with mom, I will ask them to reply to your questions. They will get a kick out being asked question and that someone actually read their reviews. I have some pictures of the boat I will try to post here in the next hour or so.

You have the floor Miss 11 year old.

"I liked Nuremberg and and Rothenberg the best. Nuremberg was really big and had a special kids Christmas market that my sister and I liked. Rothenberg had snow on the ground so it was very pretty. I think we went to 6 markets over all. I am glad I packed my stuffed pigs because I can't really sleep without them. My mom packed for me so I did not need anything. It was cold and rainy so I am glad that I had a warm jacket, gloves and a hat."

My wife and I are actually already booked on Catherine for June. We convinced our friends to join us and look forward to it. At first my kids did not care that we were going on another river cruise, but now it is decidedly "not fair" that they can't go.
