boohoyal Posted December 26, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2017 Hi there, Thanks in advance for your help! We are traveling on HAL on a RT cruise to Alaska in June on an itinerary that includes GB. Our kids are as active as any other 11 and 12 year olds and may get tired of too much "scenic cruising". Our trip offers the Tracy Arm drop-off in the morning on the Juneau day and we're considering that excursion because it seems unique and gets great reviews. It's called the Tracy Arm Fjord and Glacier Explorer. Questions: Does that excursion seem like a long time on the boat (it's 6 hours)? Do you get off the boat onto land to explore at all? Is it mostly riding around looking at glaciers? Is it similar to the day in GB? For reference, in Skagway (the following day) we are renting a car and hope to "free form" it a bit without an official tour. Hope to hit the Caribou Crossing dog sled camp and Emerald Lake. They'll get to run around a bit on this day.
Rare Coral Posted December 26, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 26, 2017 You do not get off the boat during the Tracy Arm excursion. You know your kids best but I would have loved it as a 12 year old. Have your kids bring a hand held game if you expect them to be bored. I don't know how they could get bored though. It is stunning. It maybe their favorite excursion. It is completely different than Glacier Bay.
JT1962 Posted December 26, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 26, 2017 As stated by Coral, you know your kids better than anyone. It is not an active trip other than walking around the boat to look at scenery. The scenery is beautiful and you will see some wildlife (seals and possibly bears and whales). Some kids that age will love it and others will be bored and sleep most of the trip. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

xlxo Posted December 29, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 29, 2017 fyi.... from Juneau.... Tracy Arm is 50 miles South and then 31 miles inland to look for Sawyer. As a result... you need those hours to cover 160 miles of water round trip.
Casey12 Posted December 29, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 29, 2017 We loved this excursion. Our 14 year old said it was the highlight of his cruise.
