babscruiser Posted December 28, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 28, 2017 Does anyone know where the Queen Elizabeth will be docking when it does it's overnight in New York on January 16-17? We will be boarding on January 17th and want to be sure whether it will be in Brooklyn or Manhattan.

babscruiser Posted December 28, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted December 28, 2017 Thanks, JohnKen3. The trouble is that we called Cunard who said that they "never" cruise from Manhattan. We know that we docked in Manhattan on the QE a few years ago when we returned from a cruise from Los Angeles. Is Cunard once again giving us bad information? Underwatr Posted December 28, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 28, 2017 It should be a standing assumption that Cunard shore side doesn't have any idea what the ships will be doing.
Rare Scrapnana Posted December 28, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 28, 2017 I sailed on the QE from Southampton to NYC in 2014 and 2015 and we docked in Manhattan both times. Although it may have happened, I don't recall QE or QV ever docking in Red Hook.
Greg Ovens Posted December 29, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 29, 2017 Hey Babscruiser! There was a time that Cunard booked exclusively from Manhattan,in the US.
lynxie Posted December 29, 2017 #8 Share Posted December 29, 2017 We're meeting family who live in New York, so yet another reason to be getting very excited about the holiday!
seacruise9 Posted December 29, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 29, 2017 Hi, For what it's worth, I did a transatlantic crossing on the Queen Victoria in May 2015 (final segment of the World Cruise) from New York to Southampton. The ship sailed from a Manhattan pier. Chuck
babscruiser Posted December 29, 2017 Author #10 Share Posted December 29, 2017 We just received our E-Ticket for the trip and it just says "Port: New York" - which could mean either location. Cunard doesn't make it easy for any of us. Regardless, it appears we are all agreed that the QE will be docking in Manhattan (55th Street on the West Side) and we will be boarding there on January 17th. Thanks to all of you who responded to my very first post and I will look forward to meeting Greg and any of the rest of you who will be on that cruise. We are looking forward to getting out of the deep freeze of New York City. Regards, Babscruiser.

This was also mentioned in the recent "Cunard Newbies" thread about QM2 e-tickets showing the port of departure as simply "New York" as well. But it's even worse that Cunard customer service is giving out wrong information about never departing from Manhattan. Oh well, at least we have the "nycruise.com" web site to keep us straight. Have a great voyage! Regards, John
myotis Posted December 31, 2017 #12 Share Posted December 31, 2017 Perhaps Cunard should be advised NYC has five boroughs, none of which is called NY. Glad I read this post, as we were thinking Brooklyn port. Happy New Year, see you all on board.:p
mcloaked Posted January 1, 2018 #13 Share Posted January 1, 2018 Is it the case that Queen Mary 2 is too large to go in to the Manhattan terminal? It seems that only two ships berth in Brooklyn when in New York? (The maximum ship length at Manhattan is 1000', but at Brooklyn it is 1135.2′, and QM2 has a length of 1132 feet )
Underwatr Posted January 1, 2018 #14 Share Posted January 1, 2018 QM2 goes to Manhattan when a Princess ship is in Brooklyn the same day. It doesn't happen often, but Princess does autumn New England/Canada cruises out of Brooklyn.
myfuzzy Posted January 1, 2018 #15 Share Posted January 1, 2018 Princess causes the same concerns on their New York trips....it says either Manhattan OR Brooklyn. No one know where they will be embarking.....Normally Cunard and Princess use Red Hook Brooklyn for embarkation and debarkation, UNLESS they are in transit and use NY as a day stop, then its Manhattan. Lots of folks staying before the cruise book Manhattan then slepp their stuff to Brooklyn
