NewAddict Posted December 31, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 31, 2017 We're thinking of booking a cove balcony, so I looked at the deck plans. I noticed that there are staterooms above us. Anyone ever stayed in a cove balcony on the Vista? If so, did you hear a lot of noise from the floor above you? Also, we just stayed in a balcony on the Sunshine. Do the doors slam shut on the Vista? Every other minute I heard other balcony doors slamming on the Sunshine, especially early mornings on port days. Thanks in advance!
Sam_Eagle Posted December 31, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 31, 2017 There are no cabins directly above the Cove Balconies on the Vista. Depending on the location of the Cove, you will have either the galley, the Reflections MDR, or the main lobby (along with the Guest Service & Shore Excursion desks) above you. The galley will likely be the source of noise, while the Shore Excursion desk will likely be quiet since it's closed during evening hours. Yes, the doors slamming is an issue on every ship, the Vista is no exception. It'd be great if they could come up with a solution to this. We didn't hear any noise from above. However, our neighbors in the cabin beside us had kids, so we did hear their balcony door slam shut (more than once) every day. I thought to myself "Really? Can't the parents do something to control that? Don't they realize how annoying that is?" But I would bet some adults let their balcony doors slam shut too. And the problem isn't exclusive to the cove balconies. You might as well accept the fact that no matter which deck you book a balcony cabin on, on ANY ship, you're going to hear doors slam shut. I find it hard to believe, after years of complaints, and millions of dollars spent on designing and building cruise ships, that someone can't come up with balcony doors that will close q-u-I-e-t-l-y. I hear ya, we had neighbors on yhe Sunshine with no kids, and they let their door slam more than anybody else. But I kept thinking the same thing, when will Carnival invest in something to solve the slaming???!! evandbob Posted December 31, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 31, 2017 Most other cruiselines use sliding doors to the balcony. Princess, NCL, and Celebrity all have sliding doors, not slamming ones. Simple, low tech solution. You would think Carnival would do this on its new builds.
lcpagejr Posted December 31, 2017 #8 Share Posted December 31, 2017 I was on the Vista over Thanksgiving. Stayed in Havana cabins. I do not recall the sliding doors being noisy. Then again we may have had a special door compared to normal balconys as we had access from the outside and the handle had to be up for secure lock and down for access with key card from outside

NewAddict Posted January 1, 2018 Author #11 Share Posted January 1, 2018 That is why we will not do a balcony anymore . I swear I was thinking that every morning. But of course, wifey slept through all the slamming, so she wants another balcony. Sent from my SM-J727T using Forums mobile app
v3cruiser Posted January 1, 2018 #12 Share Posted January 1, 2018 My parents stayed on a Cove balcony with mixed feelings. When leaving port it was great but at sea, they had mist issues from the ocean spray coming in all the time and were not able to use it about half or less of cruise on the Dream. Balcony doors don't usually slam unless hallway door is open that creates a vacuum. Never bothered us. Good luck!

That would suck for me, and I believe I heard that before but must've forgot. Sent from my SM-J727T using Forums mobile app

Balcony doors don't usually slam unless hallway door is open that creates a vacuum. Never bothered us. Good luck! We've had a cove balcony twice. First on the Breeze, and then on Vista. Never had a problem with sea spray. Maybe it depends on ocean conditions, and how far back you are from the bow. On both cruises, we had calm seas, and we were about mid ship. Balcony doors will slam shut if you don't control them, whether the hallway door is open or not. It has more to do with the type of door closer that is used on the balcony doors.
