The Big Lebowski Posted January 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 12, 2018 We're headed for the Panama Canal on Super Bowl Sunday 2018. I'm sure there will be some type of hoopla and the game will be up on the MUTS screen. Just not sure how early we can board to get a seat within site of the screen. Of course I want front row. We have a suite but our boarding time isn't until 1:30 (yuck)!!! By then we'll likely be watching in our cabin cause every seat will be taken bow to stern. What to do??? What to expect??? Steelers36 Posted January 12, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 12, 2018 I think you are way over-worried here. Since you are in a Suite, you have priority boarding, so just show up earlier and boarding will probably start before noon. People have lots to do before getting setup for the game. GO STEELERS!!! EDDY0827 Posted January 12, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 12, 2018 Does your cruise depart on game day? If so, embarkation, muster drill and sail-away deck party will not mix well for Super Bowl viewing. It's doubtful that the game will be shown on the MUTS screen due to the chaos of everyone getting on the ship and the mandatory muster drill prior to sail away. The MUTS screen will probably be dedicated to the sail away deck party. The game may or may not be viewable in your room, however it should be available in some bars. It's doubtful that you will get to see the whole game. Good luck!

What to expect??? Last Super Bowl Sunday we boarded the Regal Princess. We boarded at 1:00 p.m. and immediately went up to the MUTS area to get seats for the game. There were none left anywhere in sight of the screen. The game was not shown on the cabin TVs so we watched it in a lounge. You do not have to wait until the 1:30 boarding time you were given. That is just a recommendation made to make the boarding process smoother by spreading out passengers arrival times. I would get to the terminal at 11:00 a.m. and hope to board around 11:30. If you can't find a seat at the MUTS screen, find out which lounge or lounges will be showing the game and get seats there.
voljeep Posted January 12, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 12, 2018 The BIG GAME itself usually starts after 6 - well past a normal 4-5 pm departure time. however, since you are departing from San Pedro, your times my vary, of course
The Big Lebowski Posted January 12, 2018 Author #6 Share Posted January 12, 2018 Game time this year is 3:30pmPST. 30min before sail and 2nd quarter will be during muster drill......... Poopy. That's why we need to get there early and setup somewhere solid for 2nd half.
voljeep Posted January 12, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 12, 2018 Muster drill is before sailaway...would be hard to leave a premo seat to go to the muster drill. Just remember, LIFO:evilsmile:
voljeep Posted January 12, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 12, 2018 Upon further review the above ruling has been reversed. It looks like the muster drill can be held within 24 hours of embarkation

But they do have to have the safety drill and passengers will have to attend muster stations. Lots of seat savings going on for sure. I don't believe folks should have to lose their seats for attending safety drill as long as they return back promptly. For west coast sailings, I don't think the football fans will appreciate the new silly sail-away dance routine.

Princess always does safety session prior to sail-away. But unless they schedule it early, you can miss a few minutes of the game. Your best bet is to try and be among the first people to board and you should be fine. This is kind of funny - instead of the rush for the Sanctuary, it's a rush for loungers at MUTS. They showed the game on both MUTS and in a lounge. Fairly easy to find a couple of seats in either place, but if you have a larger group it might be hard to find seats together. fishywood Posted January 12, 2018 #13 Share Posted January 12, 2018 Sorry but the following issues cannot be ruled out:: The MUTS screen will show nothing but the usual lame new-age background music and images until after the muster drill; The muster drill will conflict with the kickoff and first quarter of the game; Coverage of the game (both on MUTS and in the lounges) possibly could be delayed until after sailaway due to Princess using an international feed (not domestic NBC) for the satellite signal I will leave the chair-saving debate for parties with greater interest than myself. But what is totally outside the realm of possibility is that the muster drill will be delayed, postponed or otherwise take second fiddle to a televised sporting event--or anything else for that matter. Absolutely mind-boggling that anyone would claim that is possible.

I would not want to be inconvenienced to have a muster drill later (when we want to enjoy the ship) due to sport fanatics who can't miss a kickoff....Sorry folks
nukesubsailor Posted January 12, 2018 #15 Share Posted January 12, 2018 Don't worry if the muster drill causes you to miss the start of the Super Bowl. The Patriots don't start the butt kicking until the 2nd half.
GweninTX Posted January 13, 2018 #16 Share Posted January 13, 2018 Just an extra note - we were on Island last year and the feed they get has no commercials- we missed seeing them! Casino sold squares and they had a nice buffet set up with tailgate type food Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Not likely, but it can't be ruled out! :) WRT the drill within 24 hours of embarcation -- regardless of the regulation, a company can make a stricter policy.
