Silver Sweethearts Posted January 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2018 We drove past Kahului Harbor this (Sunday, January 14th) afternoon and the POA is nowhere to be seen. In trying to track it, it seems to be holding off of Honolulu. Since the surf must be giving them problems, any idea of their new schedule? Silver Sweethearts Posted January 15, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted January 15, 2018 Interesting that they didn't even attempt to get close to their usual dock of Kahului. How the surf is, we don't know, but the weather here on Maui is very nice with minimal wind.

Silver Sweethearts Posted January 15, 2018 Author #8 Share Posted January 15, 2018 Thank you for keeping up with the POA. We couldn't find any accurate tracking and appreciate your help!
don't-use-real-name Posted January 15, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 15, 2018 Possible explanation for what is happening: Normal port for the POA at Maui is Kahului on the north side of the island. Presently there is a HIGH SURF warning and also a SMALL CRAFT advisory. Typical winter storms affect the north side of all the islands especially Oahu where the surf becomes a surfers heaven pipeline etc. The POA positioned off of Lahaina which is on the lee side of the island is probably using that as a alternate for Kahului even if it means tendering. Weather presently at Kahului is 76 degrees Winds 10 mph NNE with the High Surf and SC advisory. Hilo may not be much better for the day after next - Kona may have rough tendering sea to contend with. Nawiliwili port of Lihue on Kauai is sheltered but the spectacular trip around the north side of that island to see the Na Pali coast maybe a not so smooth ride. Picture High Surf as being a mini-tsunami - ships small and big (POA) get banged around in and near port.
don't-use-real-name Posted January 16, 2018 #10 Share Posted January 16, 2018 The POA has left Maui and is presently in the Maui Channel northwest of the Big Island - destination Hilo.
