Haven

Honestly, it’s hard to enforce this as it can be hard to tell where it’s coming from. However, there is a reason that smoking isn’t allowed on the balconies. It is a major fire hazard, one ash that lands on a neighboring balcony with a towel or something and it can be a major issue. Fire is the single biggest risk at sea. Also, cigarette smoke really bothers me (and many others) and not being able to enjoy my balcony, especially when I have to avoid a lot of other areas, because someone else is smoking on theirs when there are designated smoking areas is just rude. Not flaming you, just encouraging you to think of how your actions impact others.

Please don’t slaughter me for this question. We’re booked in a Haven Suite, do they really enforce the no smoking policy on the balcony?

Havens don't make you special. No smoking or vaping in any room/balcony.

If we can identify a room that is smoking, we call security immediately.

We pay the high cost of the Haven to enjoy OUR time on OUR cruise. I don’t want to have to smell your smoke on my balcony so please follow the rules and go to the smoking section of the ship. It’s bad enough for us lung cancer survivors to deal with the smoke in the casinos that we can’t do anything about but I will report those I see on balconied next to mine.

Our last cruise, balcony below us had cigar smoker every morning and evening. Hard to enjoy morning coffee on balcony with smell of cheap cigar.

I handled it by asking ...”could you please not smoke on your Balcony. “. There is a special area on board for cigar smokers. “Please smoke only in the cigar room “. (It was on the Pearl. )

Did not continue after that. Perhaps, just testing the waters?

We were on the Breakaway in a Haven Suite last year, they had an outdoor smoking area in the Haven - it was outside on the upper deck. Saw quite a few smokers using this area.

I’m not sure about other ships, but as others have said, you should not smoke on the balcony.

We were on the Pearl in a non-Haven suite. The people in the cabin next to us were smokers. I really wanted to ignore it, but it was too frequent and got annoying. So... we mentioned it (discreetly) to our Butler. Problem solved. So to answer your question, if any of your fellow passengers are the least bit affected, you'll probably hear from your room steward or butler at the very least.

Right there with you! To many smokers are exceedingly inconsiderate of others being exposed to their pollution.

Since it has been 11 years now maybe you aren't aware - but just as a reminder, in 2006 Star Princess caught fire at sea, leaving one person dead, 11 injured, and damaging more than 100 cabins. It is believed the fire resulted from a smoldering cigarette on a balcony. I'm booked in the Haven and if someone were smoking on one of the balconies around my room, I would complain as it would interfere with my enjoyment of my balcony.
