Clarea Posted February 4, 2018 #26 Share Posted February 4, 2018 They were actually invented at the Hilton. The bartender who invented the Pina Colada for a contest at the Hilton later went to work at Barrachina's. I learned that on Wednesday during my food tour and this is what I recommend as "what to do in San Juan". www.spoonfoodtours.com Thanks for this Carol. We took your advice and went on the Nassau food tour and enjoyed that very much, so we will likely give this one a try too.:)

molsonschooner Posted February 4, 2018 #28 Share Posted February 4, 2018 BIL is leaving for cruise tomorrow, and just found out that Puerto Rico excursion was cancelled. He just want to shop, walk around, and visit the beach. This is his first cruise without experienced cruisers, and he’s never done a non-shop excursion... could he and his fiance easily find a tour or cab, by walking off ship? How much would it cost? Are US dollars ok? Sent from my iPhone using Forums we were in San Juan a few years ago with no plans. We got off the ship, found a cab and asked him what he would charge to show us some of the sights. $40 US for about 1.5- 2 hour tour. The driver seemed very knowledgeable and friendly. He had us back to the ship at our requested time. The only issue we had was it was getting dark(weird hours in SJ) so it was harder to see things. I would do the same thing again but only if we had more daylight.
