Refundable OBC?

On an upcoming cruise I have more OBC than I will want to use. Am I correct in thinking that none of the HAL provided OBC (shareholder credit, welcome home, onboard booking, etc) is refundable, but all of a travel agent provided OBC is refundable? thanks.

Generally, what OBC a cruise line provides is non-refundable. As for a TA's OBC: if it is "pass through" incentive/promotion funds from the cruise line to the TA (or from a TA consortium to which that TA belongs), it is most likely also non-refundable. If it is OBC from a TA's own resources (including the sharing of commission, it should usually be refundable (though some TAs may provide a post-cruise rebate check instead of OBC).

No need to leave any OBC in the HAL bank. You can always use the Casino slot machines trick to get back any OBC.

The following was copied from someone else's posting:

"I open my Casino account on the day beforeDisembarkation Day, after reviewing my statement, for an amount that is higherthan my remaining OBC credit . That Casino account amount is immediately postedto your stateroom account as a deduction. My choice for a few slot machinepulls is the penny machines before going to the Casino Cashier to cash out. Ileave the ship with cash in my wallet and a credit card bill for just a fewdollars."

As far as the OBC from your TA goes, you really need to contact them to find out if none, some or all is refundable or nonrefundable. We have 4 cruises booked with our TA and when we asked that question, a couple of the cruises had refundable OBC, one had some of each and one had only nonrefundable OBC.

BTW this was just associated with the OBC the TA issued. In our experience any OBC issued by the cruise line unless it was a refund associated with something we purchased from them with a credit card is nonrefundable.
