Lou_70 Posted December 25, 2005 #51 Share Posted December 25, 2005 Check this out. We were supposed to get married in Key West on Tues, Jan. 3. We found out on Dec. 16 that RCCL had changed the itin and we are now stopping in Key West on Sat, Jan. 7 instead. Thank God I hired a great wedding coordinator in Key West, and she is frantically working to get everything rebooked. As of now I still don't have a photographer, but am sure I will by then. As if that wasn't bad enough, the clerk's office is closed on Saturday, so we couldn't get a marriage license and have had to hire a company to do it by mail which cost me a lot more money. I had one week to get all this straightened out. But I knew planning a port wedding off the ship was risky, and had to roll with the punches. But I must say, I thought that I was safe once the trip was 2 weeks away, that was quite a shocker. Ok you win.. your story is MUCH worse than my bathroom light going out.. Best of luck with the wedding and have a blast :) try to get out of the room for a bit and see some sights :P
hermang Posted December 25, 2005 #52 Share Posted December 25, 2005 That is the main reason I do not like eastern caribbean that much. I have been to Puerto Rico 3 times and never liked it once. I stay on the ship. I will tell you that going to maegan's bay and the beaches in st marteen make up for a sucky stop at puerto rico... Have fun and cruise.. everything else will fall into place We are leaving march 10 to begin a 7 night cruise ( Mar 11 ) on the Consstellation out of San Juan. As is our custom especially in winter cruises we leave the day before. We found delightful places to dine in Old San Juan on Calle Forteleza. about 3 blocks from the old piers. There is a Starbucks and a Senor Frogs as well. We found an Indian/Latin place called Tantra and there os also a Chinese place Dragon Fly - all in all we thoroughly enjoy San Juan
Lou_70 Posted December 25, 2005 #53 Share Posted December 25, 2005 I am sure some people love it, cause if not they would prolly stop going there. I just can't get into leaving the ship at 4-5 pm and getting back by 11pm.. not alot that I feel I can see.. but to each his own :) My Mom and Dad took their honeymoon there and keep saying how it is their favorite island in the caribbean... I keep think they are getting senile, but who knows they could be right :)
RichardK Posted December 25, 2005 #54 Share Posted December 25, 2005 I am sure some people love it, cause if not they would prolly stop going there. I just can't get into leaving the ship at 4-5 pm and getting back by 11pm.. not alot that I feel I can see.. but to each his own Ahhhh, Old San Juan at night: *Have a great dinner at the Parrot Club or better yet at Mufongo's (across from the Sheraton OSJ). The chicken stuffed with sausage & sour cream is to die for. *Then walk along Paseo de la Princesa, the promenade that skirts the Old City Wall. Many open air kiosk vendors, music, and people just enjoying the warn evening. *To your left look for the "Dance Barge" out in the Bay, and listen to the music. With that thing rockin', it's amazing that it still floats? *Stop at the fountain and enjoy the warm breeze that you'll feel as the paseo turn north. *Walk back and stop at the small Plaza next to the little pink tourist info center. There are men playing dominos there and they'll let you watch (Note: They actually play dominos and not just stand them up to later knock them over). *Walk north one block, and stop at the Hard Rock Cafe. Buy a T-Shirt or a Ball Cap to mark your visit to OSJ. *Before retuning to the Ship Stop at the Sheraton OSJ. There's a Casino and the Slots are way looser than the one's on the Ship. Or you can just sit outside, have a cold drink, and people watch -- i.e., enjoy the warmth and activity of this busy section near the docks. Ah Old San Juan at night. At night, during the day, whatever........ One of my most favorite places in the world to walk, watch, listen and enjoy!!! Heck with Co Co Cay…… I'd hit the beach in St. Maarten or St. Thomas the following day(s), and be very thankful for the opportunity to visit OSJ again!!! But that's just my humble opinion!! . Ocean Boy Posted December 25, 2005 #56 Share Posted December 25, 2005 I, too, would take San Juan over a forced day at the beach. I can walk down the street and go to the beach all summer long. I love walking the cobble stone streets of OSJ. It really is a beautiful city.
CMurph Posted December 25, 2005 #57 Share Posted December 25, 2005 Are you somhow implying that when someone books a vacation it should not have to do with what "I", or that, particular person is looking for??? Are not vacations supposed to be about you and your family? Of course, we plan our vacations around what we desire and look forward to that time. I was referring to some reactions I read on this board that people have towards changes. I don't blame people for being upset, but some act as if the change was intentionally done to mess up their personal plans...that a certain island shouldn't be chosen because they have been there before. We have had our cruise itinerary changed several times, sometimes we knew ahead of time, sometimes not. We cruise for the whole experience, not just the destination. I am not being deliberately dense, or unfeeling...I understand that for some this may be the only opportunity to visit a particular island. I just think it is sad that these changes seem to ruin so much of the cruise for some people. And they certainly shouldn't view it as a personal insult against them. I'm not sure I would be rolling with it quite as well as you are. Sounds like you have the right attitude, macgirl, so everything will be fine. Hope your wedding is absolutely beautiful and everything you want it to be and more. Congrats!
Luv4dacruise Posted December 25, 2005 #59 Share Posted December 25, 2005 "Worst Itinerary Change ever!!! " Is the glass half empty or half full? I have always loved it when people ask me this question. I define myself more as a realist, therefore, there is no glass, hehehehe!
Lou_70 Posted December 25, 2005 #60 Share Posted December 25, 2005 When people show me the glass of water and ask me the question.. I pick it up and drink it.. Then I tell em it is empty, move on with life
crossword cruiser Posted December 25, 2005 #61 Share Posted December 25, 2005 Our NOS cruise was all wacky because of Wilma in Oct. We too subbed SJ as a port. Ick! But it was still a great cruise and I guess one of these days we will get to GC & Cozumel. But, I agree....if people want to vent, let them vent. right? camella Posted December 26, 2005 #64 Share Posted December 26, 2005 I understand your frustration, but hey maybe make it into a positive...the spa usually offers discounts for port days, so you could stay on the ship, go to the spa and get a massage and chill out with a drink on the uncrowded deck while everyone else goes shopping! We just came back from Radiance and weren't able to tender at Grand Cayman. It was our last port, so instead of one day at sea, we had two. We just tried to make the best of it. If you are really unhappy though, by all means cancel. Life is too short to be miserable.
vikeqn Posted December 26, 2005 Author #65 Share Posted December 26, 2005 Hello all from sunny Las Vegas. After much family dispute I made final payment on the cruise this morning. My DS claims he could do 7 days at sea. After him cruising 8 times he knows what he wants. This is our trip with him as we travel in Oct Just the two of us so I let him make the call. He wants to go to St. Thomas cause he made good friends with a kid from there on the AOS last year. The boys are excited about seeing each other. My DH wants to go the jt beach in St. Martin so I guess I will go with the flow. I live close to Duluth, MN I don't get beach days that componded my disappointment of missing Cococay but I will just have to hangout in the concierge lounge and drink free drinks. No I have not won money.....YET. Off to the Circus Circus breakfast buffett. Thanks to all for your support. I think I will leave DS (16) on the ship in San Juan and go to Sr. Frogs. If you can't beat it - drink the glass that is half full - just hope it has boooze in it. HAHA

HAHA Plus there is that 24 hour coffee machine in the Concierge lounge that makes cappacino and latte. Just in there on Mariner a couple of weeks ago! Besides Sr. Frogs there is the Parrot Club for a local flavor, and there is also a Hard Rock Cafe. If you gamble there is a casino in the Old San Juan which is close by the Sr. Frogs.
