Anyone with personal knowledge and recent experience know which port Oceania utilizes for Rangoon/Yangon.

Bo Aung Kyaw Jetty (near town)

Thilawa (perhaps an hour away)

Last year on Insignia we were in Thilawa

Port Thilawa. Only the smallest of ships can get to the jetty. Thilawa is 1-1.5 hours away ... depends on traffic. Roads from the port through Thanlyn to get to the paved roads were not in the greatest shape last year and can add to the time getting to Yangon.

What were some interesting things that you did there?

Did you take any interesting tours? With whom?

On the first day we had a very special treat as we had a full day exploration of Yangon with a former Oceania staff from Myanmar whom we met many years ago onboard Marina and stayed in touch ever since. I would definitely recommend a tour of Yangon - either private or with Oceania.

On another day we had a tour to Bago.

Enjoy!

We did private tours with one stop Myanmar ... of Yangon on the first day and went out to Bago area the second day. Even though our departure the third day changed from 2:00p to 6:00p (tides), we opted to remain aboard.

Below is the link to our Yangon tour ... when you get to the end, click the newer post link for our day in Bago. A good option for day 3 would have been touring the Thanlyn area ... we were going to do that this year with O, but had to cancel our cruise due to a health emergency. Those who did that O tour in 2017 came back happy ... at least the ones we spoke to.

Agree.

In fact, we did Thanlyn on third day as it was not a full day and Thanlyn is nearby.

We were docked in Yangon about three weeks ago. Feb 8, Cape Town to Singaport, Insignia. We docked at Thilawa, which is at least a 1 1/2 hour drive to the city center. This was our fourth visit to Yangon. Traffic has become a major issue. We saw a huge change, even in the last year.

Everything depends on the tides. We missed a port after Yangon of tides . Apparently, Oceania has not worked out tidal issues in Yangon. I would think they could figure out how to read the tidal charts and plan ahead so that ports passengers expect to call on are not cancelled. We had two ports cancelled on this cruise.

We did only O excursions this time. The evening dinner and show, Yangon 1/2 day On Your Own and the village visit to Thaylin. We enjoyed all of them. I would suggest the full-day On Your Own

though. With traffic issues, our time was cut short and we felt rushed. There are two or three overland trips out of Yangon. Mandalay and Bagan, that I remember. We traveled to those areas on a river cruise and if you are able, I would recommend visiting those places..

Acrusa---We have been to Bagan and it is an amazing place. We did not go on the overland on our recent cruise. We did hear that people loved it. Oceania did everything first class.
