Reception of Americans in Europe?

So, my first name (Gail) is very close to a german word, "geil". Which means, among other things, horny. Cab drivers in Hamburg found this hilarious. :)

We found the French people to be very warm, polite, and welcoming. The only time we felt a little out of place was when walking on the Champs Elysees we realized that we, Americans, were the only ones wearing white sneakers. We went back to the hotel and changed into our black walking shoes and felt much more comfortable. The Parisians were dressed more business-like than we who were on vacation.

 

As far as discussing politics, we usually find that people from other countries on the cruise do like to discuss American politics. We try not to get into it with them. At home we get bombarded with politics in the news every day. When we're on vacation, I don't have any desire to discuss it.
