Early Disembarkation

My mum and I are going on Celebrity in June to Italy and the Greek Isles. The cruise departs and returns to Rome. It docks back in Rome at 5am and our goal is to catch a 10am flight from Rome to Malta. Is this unrealistic to think we can make this flight? Any suggestions on the best process to make this happen would be welcome also. Many thanks.

Don't book this type of situation in the first place and you will have no problem. It is like placing a revolver to your head will one round loaded out of six. It only takes one mistake for you to be in big trouble. Even if other people say yes we have done it, just becasue it work for them does not mean it will work for you, the results could be very bad. No magic answers here, even if you plan everything Mr Murphy and his Law canl hit you and it is all done.

Its doable, but definitely tight.

You need to carry your luggage off, and have a private transport picking you up.

Did you make this booking before you researched the logistics? Not a good idea.

No we haven't booked the flight yet. Still at planning stage. Just wanting feedback first.

thank you

Consider the following when making your plans.... The Rome airport is located only 60 km from the port of Civitavecchia; it is a drive of 50 minutes by car the distance from Rome airport to Civitavecchia Port. Ciampino airport is further away, is about 85 km; about 1 hour and 20 minutes by car.

Usually they don’t let passengers debark until at the earliest around 7am, but 7:30am is more realistic. Even with carrying off your own luggage, which is a must in your situation, you still have to go thru customs at the port and then again at the airport. And you have to go thru security as well. I would say there is probably a slim to none chance of all that happening to make a 10 am flight.

A good rule to follow is never book a flight after a cruise until 12 noon or after. You don’t want to end a perfectly good cruise with all that stress.
