Kelli0927 Posted May 7, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2018 We will be cruising next June/July on RC radiance. July 4th we will be cruising Hubbard glacier. Do any of the alaska towns or the ship have any festivities? It's not a huge deal, but my 10 yo boy loves fireworks, so seeing them in alaska would be awesome. AKStafford Posted May 7, 2018 #2 Share Posted May 7, 2018 Since doesn't really get dark that time of year, fireworks are pretty underwhelming in the summer in Alaska...

Hopefully they have some other celebrations. Sent from my SM-G955U using Forums mobile app
Rare OCSC Mike Posted May 7, 2018 #4 Share Posted May 7, 2018 FWIW, I know I've seen the bigger ships decorated for holidays like Halloween and Xmas so my educated guess is that the holiday will be celebrated in some fashion on the ship.
Northern Aurora Posted May 8, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 8, 2018 Fairbanks certainly is not a cruise port, but we do have a fair number of folks here on cruise tours. Folks visiting here on the Fourth of July will not find any fireworks as it is simply too light, but we do have a celebration at Pioneer Park. We don't have a parade on the Fourth, but have a large parade in conjunction with our Golden Days celebration. Golden Days celebrates the finding of gold which then sparked the gold rush into what becomes Fairbanks. And for those who find themselves in Fairbanks on the Solstice we party for several days. There is a large street fair downtown, an annual baseball game played with no artificial light (it starts around 10 PM), a run (which includes a walkers division and many of the participants are in costume), a 800 mile boat race and more. There is an annual fireworks display (the "Sparktacular") but it is held on New Year's Eve. It is held on the University of Alaska campus, near the Museum of the North which stays open to provide interior viewing. Many folks park in the large university parking lots and view from their vehicles.
capriccio Posted May 8, 2018 #6 Share Posted May 8, 2018 If you are cruising Hubbard Glacier I presume that is a sea day for you. The only town I saw on the map was Yakutat, population 613 in 2015, on the southeast entrance to the Yakutat Bay. Who knows what time you will be passing the town or even if it will be visible from the ship not to mention whether they have fireworks. Have a great cruise! We'll be in Glacier Bay that day. We're all so lucky to celebrate the 4th of July in one of the most beautiful places in the country!
Rare Gardyloo Posted May 8, 2018 #7 Share Posted May 8, 2018 It looks like you'll be leaving Yakutat Bay (Hubbard Glacier) on the afternoon of the 4th and will be crossing the Gulf of Alaska that night, far, far from any towns. So no fireworks unless the ship has some wee rockets they set off. As a note that can be a big water night. We were in Ketchikan on the 4th some years ago, and enjoyed the parade through town -
