First R. C cruise

Recommended Posts

just booked a 3 day sampler cruise as we usually cruise with. P and o

Just interested in how people think the two companies compare ?

Are shuttle buses to the ports included ?

We have been to Bruges a few times now so we might just use that day as a sea day and explore the ship which looks amazing

But interested in a shuttle bus to Le Havre ?

Also how does tipping work , how much does it work out for a three day cruise

And any other helpful hints would be much appreciated X

I think the 2 companies are on par with each other. We have paid for shuttle busses on both, not sure on your cruise what you would pay for with regards to shuttle busses but they aren't that cheap. Sometimes you can walk out of port on your own. Tips are higher on RCCL but I can't remember exactly how much as we always pre pay our

Tipping is 14.50pp per day, unless you are in a suite, then 17.50pp. We add to overall bill. Shuttles are not included.

You didn’t say which ship as I can’t find a 3 day cruise.

If this is a cruise out of the UK, then the "tips" are usually added into the pricing of the cabin....for your convenience!

No they aren’t. You either prepay them or you pay them on board as usual.

Given the amount of Brits who take them off, then yes, they should be included; but we will leave that for another day.

Hubby was just asking if you go to the bar to order drinks as on p and o they come to you ? And do they have a formal night still on Royal Carribean X

You can go to the bar if you wish, or there is waiter service.

Yes 2 formal nights per 7 n cruise. Depending on itinerary and demographic the adherence is mixed.

Also on our first RCCL cruise this month.

Haven't been able to find out through the boards ( or via RCCL ) whether there will be shuttle buses to town or city centres when the dock is someway out of town.

On all the other cruise lines we have sailed, there has been a shuttle service, sometimes at a charge, although P and O included this in the Select fare.

Can we expect there to be a shuttle service with RCCL?

Sounds like there will be a charge if there is!

Yes, RCI will always put on a shuttle (for a charge) where it is needed.

However sometimes there are complimentary busses or cheaper public bus alternatives, that they 'forget' to tell you about. Prime example is Marseilles where there is a free shuttle bus, or Barcelona where the blue port bus is a cheaper alternative.

Little Britain, thanks for that information! That's quite a relief to know.

Most of the ports on our upcoming cruise are easy for DIY, or public transport. However, in Hamburg, we will be in the new terminal south of the river from the city centre, and the public transport options are dire, and it's a long walk via the Old Elbe Tunnel under the river. Looks like a ships shuttle will be a worthwhile option for what we want to do.
