College Kids

Last time we cruised my oldest kids were teens and they really enjoyed all the activities in the teen club. Now they are in college and too old for this. Is there something on Carnival where college kids or that age group meet up to get to know each other and get together to do stuff on sea days?

My daughter still won't be of age to drink and we won't be paying for alcohol for them and they won't have the money to pay for it, LOL, so any other suggestions other than the bars? I guess they could still go in the bars and mingle.

My college kid is not 21 yet, so no legal drinking on board for him. He does hang out in the casino. He asks for Cash Gifts and Carnival Gift Cards for Birthday and Christmas from his Aunts and Grandparents, etc... to support his casino time, and is usually not in the casino without my husband. He has sat in the Piano Bar with me and he enjoys the comedy shows. He has gone to check out the under 21 clubs, but honestly, it isn't his thing. His brother is over 4 years younger than him, and being in the teen clubs, has always found people to hang with, so my older son usually spends time with us. If you have more than one college kid in your group, then they at least have each other.

Sometimes he sits with my husband and I watching a band, or musician. When there is sports to watch he does head to the Sports Bar. He plays Sports Trivia when they have that on board. Since we don't get to see him very often, even when home on breaks due to his work schedules and ours, it is kind of nice to see a glimpse of the grown up he has become, and we enjoy that time with him.

Have a great time!

This is a simple answer. First, ask you adult kid, if they actually want to go on a cruise. If yes, great, than they will do exactly like you, and do everything you do. If they are single, they will look for other singles on the ship. They will to the bars, drink soda, dance, play in the casino, sports decks with other young adults, and play bingo. Lounge around the pool.

If they say no, they really don't want to go, than you save money, and won't see your adult kid mope around complaining there is nothing to do. They can do it home, for free.

I understand your concern. My oldest son LOVED the teen clubs and our next cruise will be the first time he is too old for it. Not old enough to drink though. He will have a friend with him so that will help but I am still afraid it won’t be quite as fun for him as his past cruises. Unfortunately that can be said for many things as we grow up!

I was in the same situation in December 2017. I found another similar parent on the Roll Call. Both families met up soon after boarding. Our daughters hung out together the whole cruise and still communicate via text on an almost daily basis.

Great question. I have the same question. We will be on the Paradise in June. At cruise time my boys will be 18 and 21. Our last cruise were 2 years ago. We have been on many and they have enjoyed the clubs. Both are athletic so they spent a lot of time playing basket and volley ball. We have not been on the smaller class ships before. We chose it this time because we were combining it with another trip to Florida so we had limitations on the location and date (had to do Tampa or Miami). We are very disappointed that this ship does not have basketball or volley ball. We didn't now find out until after we had made the payment. If we had known before we would have taken the 1 other option we had out of Miami. Since we have been on many cruises Carnival, Royal and Disney and they all had it we just assumed/didn't think to ask. Like others my boy are not old enough to drink and don't really have the desire too. My wife and I stopped drinking in 2003 - have not had a drop of alcohol, beer, wine, etc. since and really don't miss it. We are still able to relax and enjoy the cruises. On the last ship my boys did meet friends and hung out for a little bit (mostly at the basketball court and other meeting spots) and did some day games. They also enjoyed the shows and karaoke at nights. They did the pool some, but it was often overcrowded. We've always done 7 day cruises, but had to do 5 this time so it might be better. But, we are on a cruise so we will have fun enjoying the sun. We did rent a private cabana at one of our stops so that should be fun. We will enjoy some great family time and meals together - something we don't get to do often at home since we all have different schedules. Don't worry too much though. They will find friends and have some fun. They also like the game room, but that's more money. We usually give them a certain amount for the cruise and let them budget accordingly. The both will have short summer jobs so they can use a little of their own money this time :-), but still don't want them to waste it all in the game room

Go to the roll call for your cruise. Ask if there’s anyone else going that’s your kids age. We almost always find kids the same age as our girls (who are in college) that way. We just meet up on the first day of the cruise and then they become bff’s. They still text friends from previous cruises that they’ve met this way. Sometimes we even plan cruises together.

On the first night of the cruise there will be several mix and mingle including one for those that fall into the gap age of 18-20. These are the young "adults" that are old enough to attend the adult venues and shows but too young to legally drink on board.
