You should be okay since the Pride doesn't go into dry dock until Feb/2019. They should still be French Doors. All the 4K are sold out at this time, so there is no description. For some reason they are trying to get this sailing sold out long before we even get to final payment. The OBC were crazy and the prices were falling everyday.

 

I haven't seen anything from John Heald, but I am sure others have.

We only got a $50 OBC for the Cabin, not per person.

 

I thought that was kind of low considering on our last Journey's cruise we received $100 PP.

I originally booked back in December 2016. No OBC at that time. There was a sale last week - May 14 &15 It was also a cabin OBC of $250.00. There were different OBC sales depending on the cruise. Our rate went up with the sale of $15/pp or $30.00, and give up the $100.00 OBC (from prior sale), so it was a saving of $120.00. I have never had an OBC of $250.00. I went on a Journey's Cruise in March 2016 and never got a price reduction (booked 18 months out), nor got any OBC. It all depends on what Carnival is trying to do and how much the ship is selling out.

Just an update for those interested or affected by the 4K cabin changes. After not hearing back from emails sent to Carnival a couple of weeks ago (just automated messages asking for 7 days to respond), I decided to call and try to get an update. At this point, I'm just trying to get them to do some basic customer service by notifying cruisers that booked before the change and to fix the website to show the correct room description for the next ship to have this change, the Carnival Pride. I have essentially been told that nothing has been done and not to expect that anything will be done, although the issue is supposedly still being looked at by corporate management. It is just going to take word of mouth on sites like Cruise Critic. I don't plan on making any further contact with Carnival about this problem. If they contact me with any actual change or decision, then I will post that information. Otherwise, I have nothing further to add. Happy cruising to you all!

We sailed on the Miracle in a French Door cabin in March and loved it, although we didn't really open the door very much at all. Just loved the extra outside light and so much better than a regular inside cabin. We only paid $4 per person per day, so a pretty cheap rate to upgrade for a 7-day cruise.. Didn't care that all we saw was a lifeboat. Just booked the Miracle again for Jan. 2019 the other day with a French Door cabin for $4 per person per day upgrade (another casino offer). We don't really care if it's a French Door that doesn't open or if they change it to floor to ceiling windows. Just love the natural light at an inside cabin rate. Our cabin this time is between lifeboats so we have more of a view. I think if you don't have a casino or other cheap rate, you pay at least $26 or more per person per day for the French Door cabin upgrade. I probably wouldn't do it if we didn't have the cheap casino rate and would just book a balcony cabin instead.

That's a good deal and sounds like you got a good cabin position between the boats. We enjoy the light too vs a real interior room. We had one of these on an Alaska cruise about 6 years ago and really liked being able to open the doors to get some fresh air occasionally (we didn't actually open the doors a lot either). I'll reserve judgement until we cruise in September and have a chance to check it out on our own. Might be something that I would book again if the deal was right. I just want people to be aware of the change since Carnival is not letting the cruisers that booked before the change know that the doors are gone.

I'm in no position to complain since it was a free upgrade from an Interior Guarantee, but if I had have specifically booked one I would have been annoyed.

Yeah, I was pretty upset at first. After a lot of pushing on my part, I did get a little OBC, a bottle of wine and a pastry platter for our room. I am still annoyed, but mostly about the way Carnival is not informing cruisers that booked before the change was made on the website (which did not happen until after the dry dock). I'll miss the ability to get some fresh air into the cabin, but we'll make the best of if and we are glad that we know what is happening before we board. It would have been really upsetting to find out about the change when we walk into our cabin the first time.

Just to let everyone know, all of the 4K cabin French doors on the Legend have been sealed closed. I confirmed this with Carnival today. You can also check out the Carnival website, that's how I stumbled on the change..:mad:

New info is not old at all. These doors are being replaced with windows as each of the Spirit class ships go into dry dock. Legend was done a few weeks ago and Spirit is in dry dock right now.:confused:

It's being done right now in dry dock, how can it be years old. There were plenty of 4K cabins with doors that opened, and they are all right now being removed and replaced with floor to ceiling windows on Spirit. Legend was done a few weeks ago, and the other Spirit class ships will follow.

We booked this class for our next 2 cruises on the Pride. We had done it for the daylight. We had seen videos saying they didn't want you to open the doors so we hadn't planned on it anyway. Our difference was only $21 if I remember correctly; worth it to us. And yes they have the sofa. I don't know if there are any interiors that have the sofa so I can't answer to that. As long as they replace the door with a window, I don't see why we wouldn't be fine with it. I totally understand why people who planned on having the door open are upset, but if you know going in, I don't see any reason not to book the room if you desire the daylight.

I think so. It's still a good step up from a regular interior. The cabin itself is bigger, with a sofa, as well as the natural light.

I agree with the other replies. I think it will probably be an affordable upgrade from a standard interior, but I would also price the ocean view rooms too so you can see the difference from Interior to 4K to actually booking an ocean view. The upgrade charge can be different for different sailings and for some it might be worth it to just get the ocean view. We really liked these cabins in the past and while it was upsetting to find that the doors were removed after we booked ours for September, we are going to enjoy our cruise and decide if we would book a 4K again someday.

An update on Carnival Spirit: She still has the French Doors in the 4K cabins, confirmed by someone currently on board in one of these cabins. The report is that the shipping container carrying the windows was delayed and didn't make it to dry dock on time.

Thanks for the update. Carnival has finally changed the 4K room descriptions for all of the Spirit class ships on their website from French doors to obstructed view windows, even for the ships that still have the doors (for now). At least now anyone that is shopping for a future cruise will have correct information for the 4K cabins.

In that case shouldn't Carnival do the same to all the balcony cabin doors as well ;)

 

Comparing apples and oranges. Balcony cabins have reasons for the doors - you can go out on the balcony. There is no reason for the doors on the "French Door" cabins since there is no place to go out to. I am sure that it was done because of safety issues. Most of the hotels I have stayed at over the years have put stops on all windows above the 1st floor so that the windows only open a inch or two. They have not done the same thing on those rooms that have balconies at those levels. See, apples and oranges.
