Smoker don’t book bliss

Recommended Posts

This is great to know about Bliss. Breakaway nearly killed me with all the smoke throughout, crossed NCL off my list since i figured all the newer ships were the same design. Good to know i have an option with Bliss that won't have a smokestack in the middle of the ship.

We were on the Breakaway a couple of months back. A lot of smoke, the waterfront and around the Malting's bar area totally unusable. We could not agree with you more.

<3<3<3 The Maltings designated smoking area on the Breakaway!

I find it illogical that a non-smoker would choose to go to a designated smoking area when there are many non-smoking bar service areas on the same deck, indoor Maltings, Fat Cats (or whatever it is now), Ice Bar, Shakers and Prime Meridian. Additionally, the entire port side, the aft and aft of Maltings on the starboard side was non-smoking Waterfront. I guess it does provide an opportunity for complaints though.

I do think it is ill advised to allow smoking directly in front of doors and should have been confined to the right and left areas of the doors/bar. But other than that, I think the area is great.

I once had a casual conversation with a psychiatrist about smokers. His theory was that smoking is a coping mechanism people use to deal with untreated/unresolved mental health issues, specifically anxiety and/or depression.

If that theory is correct, it would explain some of the CDC demographics since treating mental health issues requires a lot of time and money. Then there is also the stigma associated with a diagnosis that many may want to avoid even at higher SES's.

But go ahead, keep bashing away . . .

That could be true, I guess. I've always suspected that drug and alcohol use is related to "self medicating" for stress and anxiety.

I'm sailing on the Bliss in November 2018 and I am a Smoker. Obviously, the non smokers out weigh the Smokers. I honestly don't see the harm in smoking in an outside open air designated area. I have been on approximately 20 Plus cruises and find that the best accommodations for smokers is on the Princess Lines. They have plenty of beautiful designated outside smoking areas, normally right next to the outside Bars. I've traveled on NCL's Breakaway and didn't have a problem finding smoking areas. Based on what you're saying about the Bliss, it will be my first and last cruise on the Bliss.

Yes. There are plenty of smoke free indoor bars, but I would also like to enjoy the outdoor bars like Maltings, H2O, the VIbe etc. but unfortunately they allow smoking. So, I grin and bear it.

Hopefully, the new closed in casino provides a nice smoking area for those who wish to smoke.

I Agree, but... "show me the money honey", would be their theme. Right? They are focused on what's going on NOW and that trend is no smoking. It's why some lines are leaning toward a non-smoking casino, non-smoking ship and a totally non-smoking cruise line. I believe it will happen and soon and encourage those who still are addicted to smoking, as I was 10 years ago, to Stop smoking if they want to continue cruising. It's a well known fact that smoking kills. I have a friend who has just been diagnosed with lung cancer and they are not alone... unfortunately. So sad, really, my heart breaks for them. :loudcry:

More than likely it will just drive their smoking customers away who will seek a more smoker friendly vacation alternative. I can guarantee you that I will never book a non-smoking ship (or highly limited ship such as the Bliss).

We recently completed a cruise on the Diamond Princess. There was no smoking permitted inside the ship, including the Casino and Churchill Lounge. I’m not sure if there was a smoking area topside by the pool area. There was a small designated area on the Promenade Deck. On rough weather days the doors to the Promenade Deck would be roped off. Smokers would go under the barriers.

I’m happy that the main casino is non smoking even as a smoker I hate the stale smoke smell that drifts throughout the ship.

The cigar lounge is for cigars only just been thrown out of there for smoking a cigarette so yes only 2 places to smoke 1 when in port as you can’t smoke in the casino unless it’s open.

There should be more outdoor areas to smoke like outside the cigar lounge on getaway.

I guess too many cigar smokers complained because someone posted there were too many cigarette smokers in the cigar lounge.

On the Epic there were many Cigarette smokers in the Cigar bar. It was overpower. That's a good change IMO.

We are booked on the Breakaway. Loved the itinerary! But now I am wondering if we are going to regret it. You aren't the only person that has complained about the Breakaway being really smokey. We went on the Carnival Magic and the casino was the only smoking section that bothered us. Pretty easy to avoid if you wanted to. I am honestly happy that to hear that NCL listening to the reviews. They are still providing smoking areas to smokers (I have family and friends that smoke) but they are more secluded and more avoidable to the non-smokers.

I get the smoking population feeling persecuted. 10-15 years ago, freedoms to smoke in more places and views about smoking, and towards smokers were more accepting.

Insurance companies and health officials have turned smokers into pariahs. That’s totally unfair. It always irked me that the massive fines that were leveled against the tobacco companies went to lawyers and the insurance industry and not to the actual smokers, who were lied to.

That’s a different discussion, though!

Like everywhere else on land, cruise lines are following suit and restricting smoking areas. As smoking rates continue their downward trend, I expect smoking areas on ships will continue to become scarcer.

FYI, just wanted you to know that Shakers on the Waterfront is also a bar area on the completely non-smoking side of the ship (port side). Additionally, it is not nearly as busy as Maltings on the Waterfront (starboard side). On the pool deck, the starboard side and starboard side bar are non smoking so if you only travel on the starboard side, you will never pass smoking areas. I'm really not sure why no one ever mentions that. I guess it doesn't fit the agenda.

Most smokers expect to be relegated to designated areas. We are ok with that! :D Just make sure there is sufficient space to accommodate all of us and similar amenities, on a smaller scale, to those provided to non-smoking guests.
