Hey Tina Posted June 20, 2018 Author #76 Share Posted June 20, 2018 I went up to the Sky Bar and took photos of the snacks, as promised. Also, mid day there was high tea in the Champagne Bar. Very nice and not crowded at all, I expect most everyone was off the ship.
Hey Tina Posted June 20, 2018 Author #77 Share Posted June 20, 2018 I read about a musical, Our Northernmost Life in a guidebook, they have shows daily during the summer at 1300 and 2000 and I decided to go. We were tendering in Honningsvag so I got a ticket for 1845. The staff said to expect to get to shore near the (Tourist Office) around 40 minutes later when accounting for gathering everyone, walking to the tender, loading the tender and the trip to shore, she was correct and we got to shore right around 1925. It was a nice 10 minute walk to the theater. I really enjoyed the show and would 100% recommend it. Best NOK 220 I’ve ever spent. It's a very small space. After the 40 minute show I walked back to the tender area I got in line at 2105 and by the time I stepped on board back on the ship it was 2202. Dinner unfortunately ended at 2200 so I went to the buffet to eat. I was happy to see they also had mahi mahi. Here is the MDR menu.
Hey Tina Posted June 20, 2018 Author #78 Share Posted June 20, 2018 DAY 10 I’ve given up on breakfast. Steamed salmon fillet; 9/10. I love salmon, so you'd have to really mess up to get a low rating for salmon. This was more room temperature than cold, but delicious all the same. Potage Parmentier; 3/10. The broth was very, very salty/briny tasting. Chicken Tikka; 9/10. Delicious. Also a bit spicy. These tasted like chicken thighs, so juicy. Fish and chips, no fries; 6/10. Very greasy. Wild berry and fruit pie; 5/10. Too tart, and I am a huge fan of tart.

I hope you continue to enjoy your vacation! Safe Travels!! Sorry for a quick threadjack but is that the Baltic/Fjords, April 27 cruise, or one of the legs comprising it? If so, i started a roll call for that cruise, which hasn't gotten rolling (see what i did there) much yet. Check in, if you are so inclined. Hey Tina Posted June 21, 2018 Author #82 Share Posted June 21, 2018 So, today, DAY 12, in real time is my birthday. I don't want to catch up yesterday's day (i.e. food) or write about today on my birthday so I'll resume with DAY 11 tomorrow.

Callimero Posted June 21, 2018 #87 Share Posted June 21, 2018 So, today, DAY 12, in real time is my birthday. Hey Tina, all the best! Enjoy the day while in Geiranger. Did MSC used the Skywalk? For tomorrow: Did you book the train ride? It‘s really enjoyable. Also a good advice (maybe for the next time you‘ll visit Flam): take a one-way ticket with the train up the hill, then rent a bike and ride downhill to the port of Flam. It‘s an easy way down and a lot to see... Cheers and have a safe trip back to Hamburg. Cheers Oliver PS: why did you push all the Arctic air towards to Germany, it‘s a temperature drop today of 10 degrees Celsius! So it‘ll be a cold welcome for you next Sunday... harola Posted June 24, 2018 #91 Share Posted June 24, 2018 I hope you had a great birthday. I guess the Indonesian waiters made some noise and sang you a song. Today we leave the ship. I do not think we met. The ship is lovely and we had great service from our waiters and state room attendant who respected the dnd and was impeccable. We had a fantastica balcony. Only continental breakfast is free room service for fantastica and up. By the way the all inclusive drinkpackage sold on this itinerary was € 21 plus 15%. Some people may be interested. We did not purchase it as we do not drink that much. We bought vouchers for coffe, soft drinks, water (still or sparkling) an easy wine package. We spent less than €10 pp on drinks Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Hey Tina Posted July 2, 2018 Author #95 Share Posted July 2, 2018 So! As promised, I’m back to finish this (let’s face it, mostly food) review. Huge thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday, it was a happy birthday indeed. I also want to say thank you for everyone who commented and thanked me for this review. I’m glad has been useful and/or enjoyable, and my apologies for taking an extra week to finish. DAY 10 Dinner I think I went to the buffet, but here is the menu. DAY 11 It was very, very rocky again today. I was very sick and went to lunch but can’t remember much *besides how sick I felt. Legume cereal soup Hake fillet en papillote I left halfway through the fish, I couldn’t finish it and I didn’t order dessert. See, I told you I didn't feel well. Hey Tina Posted July 2, 2018 Author #96 Share Posted July 2, 2018 Dinner Imperial duet; 6.5/10. Not impressed with the potato pancake. The salmon was fine. Caesar salad; 8/10. Standard Caesar. Squid ink tortelloni pasta; 3.5/10. The only thing that saved this was the salmon. And the salmon wasn’t great. Vanilla cream; 7/10. Heavy on the berry coulis. A bit too heavy. Hey Tina Posted July 2, 2018 Author #97 Share Posted July 2, 2018 DAY 12 My birthday. Oh, and I guess Geiranger. I was in the pub at midnight and the live band sang me happy birthday and Mark, one of my favorite bartenders, brought me a glass of prosecco. It was very sweet. Hours later shocking everyone, myself most of all, I woke up and went to get breakfast in the buffet. I got one of the fried eggs and asked the cook to put it back on the grill to cook it all the way through. It wasn't cooked through. Thankfully I've worked through my (egg related) issues and I can eat a runny yolk. MSC Orchestra was visible from the buffet I didn’t eat lunch but here is the menu I had an 80 (85?) minute Bali massage, included with the Aurea room. It was really nice. I get a massage monthly at home and this was different, but enjoyable. Here are a few shots of us leaving Gieranger
Hey Tina Posted July 2, 2018 Author #98 Share Posted July 2, 2018 Dinner Gardeners Soup; 8/10. Lasagne Portofino; 8/10. Very, very good. As harola mentioned, the waiters (I do not know if they were or were not from Indonesia….) sang me happy birthday, brought me a cake and made a lot of noise clanging together the plastic plate covers at dinner. It was very embarrassing. I asked very explicitly twice, including when I walked into dinner that night, that a big deal NOT be made about my birthday and I asked my cake to be brought to my room. I am disappointed that my request was not honored. I did not eat in the dining room for the rest of the cruise. Final days later.
Callimero Posted July 5, 2018 #99 Share Posted July 5, 2018 Lasagne Portofino; 8/10. Very, very good.... Hey Tina, totally agree with your opinion, just coming back from the 11 day Iceland Cruise, the Lasagne was one of the best,.. Other dishes in the MDR were okay, but nothing exceptional, but the speciality restaurants has been brilliant: Eataly outstanding, Butcher‘s Cut very, very good and Cirque du Soleil Dinner was good. So I can really tell everybody to book the three dinner package, worth it‘s money... Cheers Oliver
Spastica Posted July 6, 2018 #100 Share Posted July 6, 2018 I enjoyed reading this. Towards the end I was able to accurately guess what you were going to order based on the menu. Fun. Thanks for the food porn
