Hi,

I have a chance to bid on these suites, but notice that no one is booking them for the month of July on the Gem.

My question is are these room nice or are people staying away from them.

We have had SF suites on both the Gem and the Dawn and they are great! Kind of a lot of walking to get to the room but that's ok with us. Sitting on the balcony watching the wake of the ship is the best!

The SE suites are our favorite room on the ship. We normally pay full retail for those rooms.

I'm currently in a B1 (10668) but my concern is winning a SF bid and being on 8 .... should that dissuade me from bidding? Thanks.

Well, I'd do a search on here and see what people have reported about being over the Bliss night club. (Personally, I like to have cabins above and below me, YMMV.)

If you don't mind having a tiny, tight bathroom, go for it. It's a deal breaker for me. If I am paying suite prices I expect a very nice bathroom. At least on the Jewel and Dawn class of ships. Can't speak if this is the case on Away class or Escape.

Funny, but I really don't like the bathroom in the SFs and SEs on the Jewel class. Not because of the size, but because they have the tub/shower combo. The tub is really too narrow to use (and I'm not a bath tub person anyway), and I really dislike the high step over into it to take a shower, especially when the ship is rolling.

Agreed, which is why I'm on 10 now and why I'm soliciting opinions on whether being "awarded" 8 is worth the suite benefits in exchange for Bliss noise etc.

Yes, my post might have been a bit confusing. I hate the SF and SE bathrooms on the Jewel class. For all all the reasons you mention and many more. It's a very pedestrian bathroom and not what I expect from a suite.

When I sail on the Gem, which I usually do except for next year cruise which in on the Escape which I will be in a balcony on deck 15 I stay in a aft SF suite on deck 9 and love it, The the person who has gone with me loves it especially since she has on Carnival in a side balcony she loved the SF and spend most of her time on the balcony with the perks that we received.

Just an fyi for folks who might not know, on the Jewel class ships, the balconies of the SF suites on Deck 10 are larger (deeper) than they are on Deck 9. :D

Thank you for the info regarding deck 10 but I think that I will stick with deck 9, My next cruise started out as a balcony on 9 but ended up as a deck 15 balcony on the Escape which I think I will be happy with. I love just to get away for a week or so relax meet people who I have communicated with in our roll call which usually leads to a couple of drinks, ok maybe till 1am but we all behaved or dinner together as a group in one of the nonpaying restaurants so no one gets a big bill for dinner and most of us as the drink package so no costs there. Got less that a year to pay off the cruise and 16 months before we set sail. As of right now we have 3 people on our roll call and maybe that is all that is going- yeah right.

Have a great July 4th and be safe

  • 2 weeks later...

We were just awarded an upgrade from mid ship balcony on deck 10, Gem, to an SE suite forward on same deck. I'm now a bit disappointed to hear about the bathroom size and the tub/shower step in problem. Also I read that the balcony on deck 9 is larger than deck 10 but I'll find out on Saturday.

Are there any perks, if any,b that come with staying in an SE suite?

Butler. Concierge to get reservations in sold out restaurants and to personally assist you. Private dining room for breakfast and lunch. Bvgari bathroom amenities. Snack delivered to your room daily. Private check in. Escorted first on to the ship. Escorted disembarkation and embarkation in ports. The full suite treatment.

Again, the SE is our favorite rooms on the ship.

Thank you Bird travels but since we bidder and won the suite, are we entitled to these perks since it's not a Haven suite?

Yes. You get all those amenities. You just don't have Haven access. The bathroom has a shower/tub combo. Otherwise, its the same in size as the one you would have had in the balcony cabin. Both SE and SF suites are nice.
