CaribbeanLover22 Posted July 7, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 7, 2018 Putting together a self guided walking tour for our group, looking for any must stop places, and any tips for any of the places. So far plan to go to Queen's Staircase/Fort Fincastle, John Watlings Distillery, and Tiki Hut/Junkanoo Beach. Also, if you bought any cool or interesting souvenirs and where you got them in Nassau. TIA for any info.
woodz Posted July 8, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 8, 2018 We did the walking tour last year. We enjoyed it but we are easy to please. It rained on us off and on but it was warm so not a problem. It was our 4th time there so we wanted something low key.

Rare Turtles06 Posted July 27, 2018 #5 Share Posted July 27, 2018 When you're ready for lunch, I highly recommend Bahamian Cookin' right downtown. Local place and an easy walk to the ship. Conch fritters, homemade lemonade, mac 'n cheese, yum. http://bahamiancookin.com/ (photo by turtles06)

TIA for any info. Regarding souvenirs, we focus mostly on food/drink items in Nassau. We purchase Amber Rum from Watlings (you can't get it in the states), some lovely and tasty chocolates from Graycliff Chocolatier, and several types of rum cakes. I also found a Christmas ornament I liked at a kiosk at the port made with a shell and bearing a ribbon with "Bahamas" printed on it.
Sam The Cat Posted August 8, 2018 #8 Share Posted August 8, 2018 Just a quick question I am going on a Bahamas cruise October, 2019, when you are retired you have time to look into things. Is John Watling Dist free with free samples of rum and you have rums that you can purchase and does Gray Cliff charge $25. I do not mind paying but that I thought what I outlined above and did more research and located tours to these two places with an pirate for $75 each person. which I think is high just for samples knowing that most likely you will purchase either rum chocolates or both, This is about the only place that I will be going other than their island for an hour or so since if I want to go to Florida/WDW it will be for a week and not a couple of hours Thank You for any input Sam

jenateare Posted September 29, 2018 #10 Share Posted September 29, 2018 Hello fellow cruisers! I'm headed to the Bahamas next month (first time) and have been gleaning these boards for ideas on self-guided walking tours of Nassau and interesting stops along the way. So here's what I've come up with. Would love feedback from those of you familiar with Nassau...I've never been there and have simply put this plan together using google maps. LOL First stop, 11:30am tour at Pirate Republic Brewing Lunch at Crabs & Tings (Junkanoo Beach) Tour John Watling Distillery Tour Graycliff Chocolate Factory See Nassau Pirate Museum Walk out to Queen's Staircase and Fort Fincastle Maybe stop at Straw Market before getting back on ship (depends on time and whether we feel like shopping for cheap souvenirs, LOL) Dinner on board Map: https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Nassau+Bahamas+Cruise+Terminal/Pirate+Republic+Brewing/Crabs%26Ting,+Nassau,+The+Bahamas/John+Watling's+Distillery,+Delancy+Street,+Nassau,+The+Bahamas/Graycliff+Chocolatier,+West+Hill+Street,+Nassau,+The+Bahamas/Pirate+Museum,+George+Street,+Nassau,+The+Bahamas/Fort+Fincastle,+Nassau,+The+Bahamas/Straw+Market,+West+Bay+Street,+Nassau,+The+Bahamas/Nassau+Bahamas+Cruise+Terminal/@25.0759701,-77.3484163,16z/am=t/data=!3m1!4b1!4m61!4m60!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f7d0f898ca2b3:0x4b52b564c26fe5d6!2m2!1d-77.3402242!2d25.0793429!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f7d04e20f3383:0x2f8e8ba0de1de131!2m2!1d-77.342044!2d25.078799!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f7d196566132b:0xc8e18a118fa357f2!2m2!1d-77.3503492!2d25.0787672!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f7d1c41380a5f:0xbb69f09798099186!2m2!1d-77.3491412!2d25.0741003!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f7d1c85bf7813:0xe5345a1ae4dd8014!2m2!1d-77.3463484!2d25.075721!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f7d1b489dde27:0x55a7be2346149f0a!2m2!1d-77.34458!2d25.0773915!1m10!1m1!1s0x892f7ce546d4bd2d:0xf10fbc5cdc90cf7e!2m2!1d-77.33852!2d25.0735953!3m4!1m2!1d-77.3401914!2d25.0765967!3s0x892f7d0468489817:0xedd3ec99811b9d8d!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f6321140b93cf:0x61c54bcad60e3aed!2m2!1d-77.343405!2d25.0782758!1m5!1m1!1s0x892f7d0f898ca2b3:0x4b52b564c26fe5d6!2m2!1d-77.3402242!2d25.0793429!3e2

cltnccruisers Posted November 23, 2018 #14 Share Posted November 23, 2018 Couple in our 60s. We were in Nassau last month. 4 ships in port. Extremely crowded and noisy. We used a walking tour we'd found online, only reversed since we had some specific shopping we wanted to do first. Never felt threatened in any way but the walk itself was pretty tough at times. Getting to the Queen's Staircase, for example, was quite a climb. As you might expect, everything from the piers inland is uphill. Also, watch when stepping off curbs - some of them are quite steep. This was our first time in Nassau. Our habit is to just wander the ports the first time. Should we ever return we'll not do that again.
cruiseapril Posted November 24, 2018 #15 Share Posted November 24, 2018 For souvenirs we bought small copies of local watercolors. Very light and easy to pack.
atruetexan Posted December 5, 2018 #16 Share Posted December 5, 2018 We will be sailing in Feb to Nassau. This post has given me hope that I can see the city without a tour guide. Only thing, hubby can’t walk as much or as far, so we may have to take a taxi.

I had knee surgery last year and DW had a cortizone shot a couple weeks before. We found walking to be a bit rough in spots. Too late we noticed the horse 'n buggies for hire. I have no idea how much they are but the folks we saw in them seemed to be enjoying the ride. Also, a couple of times we saw them parked with a "Hired" sign while their fares were shopping or visiting some site.
atruetexan Posted December 9, 2018 #18 Share Posted December 9, 2018 Thanks. It’s not just his knees but he gets out of breath easily. I’m trying to get him into a walking program since we still have time. Thanks for the info. I’ll look into the carriage ride.
