Is there a story line to either of the two shows - After Midnight and For the Record?

I know that one of them, at least, has been described as generally without a plot, just loosely strung-together songs. Is it true of both? I'd rather see something with a story!

Thanks

We only saw For the Record. I wouldn’t say it had a strong story plot, but it was a good show. It followed around a group of teens and their lives intertwined with detention. Basically followed various **** segrements from 80’s movies.

Yeah, Brat Pack has the "principal - from Breakfast Club" kind of lead the story line. It was a good show.

After Midnight, can't really say. IMO it had a great cast with lots of talent but my thoughts it was poorly choreographed.

For the Record is a musical based on John Hughes films. If you have watched his films from the 80's it will all make sense to you. (Pretty in Pink, Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Weird Science) If not, it's just a good musical.

After Midnight is singing and dancing and tap dancing. Talented group but not much story line.

That's how we felt too. Great cast but the show was boring and too long.

For The Record was pretty good. After Midnight, well, sit towards the back so you don't look as rude when you walk out during one of the quick scene changes. We were in the front and stayed longer than we wanted but couldn't sit through it any longer and just made the walk of shame, it was worth it. It's so terrible.

Wine Lovers The Musical was a fun little lunch though if that's your thing.

Generally, I don't understand why people would rave about NCL entertainment. We found it severely lacking compared to Royal's mega ships.

I have to put in my 2 cents' worth. If a story is super important to you, then no, don't see After Midnight. If you are OK with more of a variety show type event with songs that have a common theme but don't actually tell a story per se, I very, very highly recommend After Midnight. I thought the dancing, the singing, the musicianship, and the production values were all fantastic. It was one of the very best shows I have ever seen on a cruise ship.

As an aside, we asked Darryl Williams at a Q & A about how the tap shoes were miked - was very interesting to hear about the tech side of the show.

After Midnight is a super low budget lounge type act you would expect to see next to the casino bar. It's just some basic tap dancing and lounge singing. No props or sets, etc. It's really lame. Don't need a story, but I can watch someone stand around singing at any lounge on a cruise ship. Oh, and remember, no drink service or open bar during the performance, which includes comedy... So quite frankly, I'd much prefer hanging out at a bar and listening to a musician play and sing than watch After Midnight.

The entertainment on the Epic we found fantastic! Burn the Floor and Priscilla were so good we saw both twice. While we really liked For The Record, we felt the Escape trailed behind in terms of entertainment
